BiggerPockets is seeking an experienced leader to direct its editorial operations and drive audience growth and engagement.
The Editorial team sits at the heart of the organization and requires collaboration with multiple teams: You will work closely with Product and Engineering teams to pave the user journey with useful content; you will work with Marketing on acquisition and promotions; you will work with Podcast, Video, and Book teams to integrate talent and content strategies; and you will work with Subscriptions to create value for members. Most importantly, you will manage the BiggerPockets blog and SEO programs, bringing millions of users to the site. Candidates are accountable to deliver content that is engaging, meets KPIs, and drives revenue. The Editorial Director reports to the General Manager, Media.
Our ideal candidate will have at least three years of management experience in editorial; a firm grasp of SEO and analytics, as well as demonstrated excellence in blog and pillar page publishing. A passion for and level of expertise in real estate and/or investing subjects is preferred in order to support the BiggerPockets’ mission.

We’re looking for operational excellence in content production; leadership skills; experience in growing and managing a freelance talent pool as well as building internal teams; a track record of growth in sessions and/or pageviews; an ability to boldly drive ideas across teams; and a point of view on what great looks like in digital content today. A background in news would also be an asset in this position.
Your success will be measured by:
- Overall site sessions and blog pageviews
- Sign-ups
- Display advertising revenue
- User engagement and satisfaction
- Ability to manage editorial budgets and grow roster of writers and editors
- Ability to integrate content and talent strategies across BiggerPockets’ ecosystem, including Social Media, Podcasts, Books, Events, Education, and more
- Marked increase in content quality and volume
- A thriving team, happy contributors, and articulated editorial calendars
In this Job, You Will:
- Strengthen our reputation as the #1-trusted source of real estate investing information
- Drive reach, engagement, and revenue through site content
- Design and Implement a site-wide content strategy
- Drive a team of editors to deliver high quality content at scale
- Employ SEO best practices across content types
- Manage blog and pillar page production, as well as updates
- Work with Wordpress, AirTable, Google Analytics, Parse.ly, and other Tools
- Think about usability, accessibility, writing for the web, and meeting user needs with content
- Manage stakeholder relationships internally and externally
- Conduct content audits and design roadmaps inclusive of new content and revisions
- Report to General Manager and provide weekly reporting, as well as ad hoc insights, regarding content performance, operating expenditures, contractor negotiations, status updates, and more
- Partner with Marketing to grow content-led acquisition (sign ups); collaborate on development and integration of content hooks within relevant site content
- Partner with Product to design content frameworks for user experience and design across the BiggerPockets website and software suite
- Manage our growing Bootcamp and online education program in collaboration with Media
- Partner with Ad Sales to grow blog revenue; ideate new ad units and sponsorship products, as well as serve as an ambassador to our partners
- Lead the charge to create unified content strategies across BiggerPockets, creating a consistent brand message across all content and customer touchpoints
- Explore backlinking, PR, syndication, and video integration opportunities
- Budgeting - Build and monitor profit/loss statements for blog and other content products
- Coaching and Mentoring - Guide staff and contributors to success through detailed feedback, business reviews, and improvement plans so that we can continue to attract and retain world-class talent who see this as a place to grow into a better version of themselves
Requirements
The ideal candidate will hit 70% or more of the following requirements, but most importantly - the right candidate will have an ability to see the big picture, manage projects and ideas across teams, and to make bold and decisive decisions when it comes to content. Professionals from editorial, content strategy, product, and journalism backgrounds are welcomed to apply.
- 7+ years in editorial or content marketing
- 3+ years in leadership and management roles
- Direct experience with blog publishing for a sizeable B2C business
- Experience managing content strategy across channels and formats such as blog, newsletter, video, social media, books, magazines, online education, live events, and audio
- Curiosity about real estate investing and willingness to immerse yourself in audience and subject matter research
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven content direction skills (provide sample work and/or portfolio links)
- Budget management experience
- Experience publishing on Wordpress
LOCATION: Denver Preferred but Remote considered - US based
SALARY: The salary range for this job position is $110,000 - 140,000 based on experience, plus a 10% bonus potential.
TRAVEL: Minimal travel is required for this position
