We seek a paid intern to work with the Editorial team for the Summer of 2023. The ideal candidate is an undergraduate student interested in education, creative writing, or journalism. The intern will have the opportunity to develop their skills by working with editors and writers on a wide range of projects. The intern will work 30-40 hours weekly in the NY Tri-State area. To ensure a well-rounded experience, attendance at the New York office is expected at least once a week.
BrainPOP has been creating movies and features for more than 20 twenty years. Keeping our content up-to-date is a never-ending and essential process. Hundreds of thousands of students watch our movies daily, read the accompanying articles, and take our quizzes. As the Editorial Intern, you will work with the Editorial and Learning Design teams to keep our content up-to-date and accessible so every student gets the best possible information and experience.
A Day in the Life
Editorial/Research
- Review content for outdated information, including movies, Related Readings, quizzes, and activities. Perform necessary research and suggest updates/edits.
- Draft descriptions and Related Readings for new and redo topics, to be edited by the scripts team
- Assist the Production Coordinator in organizing the team's workflow management system.
- Solicit and receive guidance and feedback across various editorial functions, positions, and departments.
- Brainstorm and pitch ideas for new content
- Provide research and fact-checking assistance to the Editorial team
Accessibility
- Assist in creating robust Transcripts for new and redo movies
You Are
- Passionate about education
- Excited to learn about a vast range of subjects
- An excellent writer with an eye for detail
- A self-starter with great instincts and sound judgment; able to implement updates with guidance
On Your Resume
- Some editorial experience (at a school publication, prior internship or job, etc.)
- Please provide 2-3 existing writing samples.

The starting salary for this role is $15/hr, depending on skills and experience. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. We have competitive pay bands for all other countries based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on several factors, including experience level, skill set, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect most of the candidates offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description, as posted. If so, the updated salary range will be communicated to you as a candidate.

We are seeking a candidate who lives within commuting distance of the NYC office and resides in the following approved hiring states:
- Connecticut
- New Jersey
- New York
BrainPOP believes in a hybrid work environment, but every role will have an in-person component. Employees are expected to come into our New York headquarters for in-person meetings as required, which may vary from one to several days a week, depending on the business needs. Employees may also work remotely on the days they are not required to be in the office.
