We Are
ATD's Production, Editorial, and Creative department is responsible for editing, designing, producing, and distributing ATD's publications, which include 20+ books annually, two monthly periodicals, research reports, and case studies. Additionally, the department supports the editorial and creative needs of all of ATD's business lines, including Marketing, Education, Conferences, Membership, Enterprise, and Global.
This Role
ATD's Production, Editorial, and Creative department is responsible for editing, designing, producing, and distributing ATD's publications, which include 10+ books annually, two monthly periodicals, research reports, and white papers. Additionally, the department supports the editorial and creative needs of all of ATD's business lines, including Marketing, Education, Conferences, Membership, Enterprise, and Global.
As an Editorial Manager at ATD, you will report to the Senior Director, Production, Editorial & Creative supporting the editorial needs of ATD's various business lines. The Editorial Manager is responsible for managing all editorial processes and coaching and collaborating with staff on a wide range of projects that flow through the Editorial Services team. These include education courses; conference materials; marketing communications and advertisements; website and blog content; materials for ATD's global partners; and ad hoc materials from other ATD business lines. The ideal candidate is an excellent editor with experience across a variety of asset types, an experienced people manager, and an effective and highly organized project manager.
Specifically, the key initiatives you will support in this role include:
- Supervising, coaching, and developing a team of editors and fostering a collaborative team environment and a strong service-oriented culture.
- Overseeing daily and longer-term assignments for Editorial Services team members as well as freelancers on an as-needed basis, taking into consideration business needs and individual editor capacity.
- Owning processes to improve editorial performance and output, while maintaining a high bar on quality.
- Project managing course and conference materials, publications, and marketing communications through the editorial life cycle.
- Successfully collaborating with multiple stakeholders across various disciplines, anticipating both business and customer needs and priorities.
- Ensuring that process documents remain updated, accurate, and consistent in voice, tone, and messaging.
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of ATD's style guide.
- Serving as an editor on several projects simultaneously.
About You
- 5 years' experience managing an editorial team
- 8 years' experience editing, proofreading, and writing
- Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or equivalent degree
- Demonstrated staff management skills, including assigning projects, goal setting, conducting performance evaluations, and continuously developing team members
- Proven experience in the management and operation of complex editorial structures and processes
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines
- Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style or accustomed to working with specific style guides
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively develop strong cross-functional partnerships with internal teams and stakeholders, freelancers, and vendors
- Experience using Wrike or similar project management tools
Meet the Editorial Team
- The Editorial Services team is a collaborative team of three that supports the broader Production, Editorial, and Creative departments.
- We are responsible for all of ATD's non-publication editing needs, including education content, marketing emails, promotional materials, website content, and event content.
