Summary

This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 4 years, 1 day). Term appointments are non-status, non-permanent appointments.

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. The Office of Under Secretary for Museum and Culture (OUSMC), Reckoning With Our Racial Past, (RWORP) which supports the Deputy Secretary/Chief Operating Officer, four Under Secretarial Offices and select units.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications Requirements:

  1. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

or

  1. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above.

In addition to the basic qualification requirement above:

GS-11 Experience:Ā You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined asĀ 1) creating educational content for students and teachers (from kindergarten to 12th grade) in a museum or cultural/educational institution, which includes researching, writing, and producing materials; and 2) managing educational programs for teachers and students, from planning and execution to evaluation, while also handling budgets for program and material development.

Or Education:Ā Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degreeĀ orĀ Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
