EHS Manager
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This role is responsible for the overall management of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance and programs for multiple locations. The EHS Manager provides direct support for locations including strategic direction, technical guidance and program oversight for the business.
The EHS Manager works with the leadership team to establish and reinforce expectations. The individual in this role plans and implements environmental, health and safety procedures and practices in accordance with SPX EHS requirements and applicable local, state and federal regulations.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Multi-Business Responsibilities:
- Provides oversight to ensure site-specific compliance with applicable environmental, health and safety regulations
- Provides strategic direction and supports the implementation of business-level environmental, health and safety initiatives, objectives and programs
- Ensures the business aligns with SPX EHS requirements through the development of programs and leadership engagement
- Monitors adherence to changing EHS standards, practices and procedures
- Interfaces with local regulators on audits, inspections and supports sites on follow up/resolution
- Promotes safe work practices and conditions in accordance with local, state, and federal laws
- Communicates compliance deficiencies and facilitates prompt correction by local business teams
- Facilitates the corporate audit process and monitors action plans
- Identifies training needs, including development of content and delivery as needed
- Participates in investigation and root-cause analysis of incidents as appropriate
- Facilitates notification of EHS incidents to appropriate leaders and regulatory authorities
- Organizes, monitors and reports regional information within the global software application
- Supports safety best practice sharing across sites and businesses
- Facilitates development and implementation of site-level environmental sustainability objectives and tracks progress
Local Business Responsibilities:
- Oversees and collaborates with local teams to improve performance; helps drive a culture of continuous improvement
- Coordinates and provides oversight for EHS within each operation to implement applicable site-specific EHS programs, safety engagement programs, company procedures and regulatory requirements
- Supports the investigations into incidents, and near-misses, ensuring root-cause analysis is completed and corrective actions identified and closed
- Ensures use of global reporting software tool for recordkeeping and reporting requirements
- Coordinates and conducts regular safety and environmental inspections, job hazard analyses, risk assessments and prepares summaries and reports on related findings
- Oversees safety data and reporting required by State and Federal agencies
- Audits and maintains EHS files; maintains logs and documentation associated with permits and /or site regulatory requirements
- Ensures proper security measures for the workplace, including collaborating with security system vendors or a team of security professionals
- Ensures equipment, machinery, and facilities are inspected and identifies potential hazards to ensure compliance with regulations
- Supports and provides guidance on worker's compensation claims and return to work processes
- Conducts or coordinates environmental, health and safety training
- Assists operations with adherence to EHS programs and regulations
- Makes appropriate requests for resources to ensure EHS compliance
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Relevant technical certifications in environmental, health and safety
- Demonstrates understanding of local and national EHS laws and regulations, and DOT compliance
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding
- Must be self-directed, have excellent initiative and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Expected travel, driving between three manufacturing locations in central Missouri
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in EHS, engineering, or related field with EHS management emphasis and 3- 5 years' experience in a related position and/or training or, equivalent combination of education and experience in related field
- Must have previous supervisory experience and multi-site responsibility
- Experience with wide range of EHS responsibilities including those related to OSHA regulations, DOT compliance, waste management, water, air quality, hazardous substances, and environmental sustainability
