Job Description
This role would demonstrate leadership in all aspects of EHS. This includes leading by example, engaging the employees, speaking up with ideas or concerns, and ensuring that EHS is a partner to all aspects of the business. This role currently does not have a direct reporting team. However, it would be expected that the person in this role would show team leadership skills.
Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. This role will help manage EHS systems such as emergency response, incident management, program development, employee engagement, assist in job hazard assessments, inspection of personal protective equipment, evaluation of procedures, and other day to day EHS functions. This role will be responsible for gathering and maintaining EHS records, data, and systems.
This role will require travel. Initial travel will be estimated up to 75% to Colorado and other locations. Long term travel is expected to be less than 50%.
Must Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field of study, or experience
- Typically 3 or more years EHS experience in general industry, startup companies, or aerospace
- Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of required education
- Demonstrated experience in EHS program management with emphasis on program development, industrial hygiene, and driving improvement in safety culture
- Proven ability to foster a positive work environment by promoting teamwork, open communication, and company culture
- Knowledgeable in developing and implementing programs based on strategies, goals, and risks
- Experience leading incident investigation teams to identify all causal factors and corrective actions
- Proficiency with technology (computers, tablets, proprietary EHS related hardware and software, etc.)
- Experience with chemical management programs
- Be independent and able to work without day to day guidance
Preferred:
- Basic understanding of 29 CFR 1910, 1926, and other EHS related regulations and standards
- Understanding of industrial hygiene and chemical management requirements
- Experience developing and using EHS Management Systems such as ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and/or ANSI Z10
- Ability to interpret Federal, State, and Local standards
- Must have excellent organizational, analytical, and administrative skills
- Be a creative and innovative thinker
- Have self-accountability and dependability
- Possess a high level of ethics and integrity
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Adept at collecting and maintaining EHS data with a high level of accuracy
- Ability to build productive relationships with all levels of the organization
- Be a highly proficient communicator, both written and verbal
- Possess technical knowledge of specific EHS topics
- Be proficient in computer usage (Office Suite, Adobe, Web Applications, EHS software suites, etc.)
- Have the ability to work occasional nights/weekends/holidays
- Be comfortable responding to EHS related events/emergencies (incl. off-hours & holidays) if they occur
- Experience working within a radiation safety, laser safety program, or explosives safety programs
- Background in the aerospace

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $ 82,867 - $ 113,943
Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
