About this role
Reporting to the EHS Manager, the EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting the site EHS program by providing environmental, safety and health training, implementation of EHS programs, enforcement of policies and procedures and recommends safety improvements. The position is also responsible for driving world class excellence standards in manufacturing processes; recommends and promotes safe and healthy working conditions, assess, inspect and recommend measures for the reduction and elimination of environmental, safety and health risks; participates in the development of the EHS programs, inspects satellite accumulations and hazardous waste storage areas, occasional testing and batching of water samples, and assures operations comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws/regulations, good business practices and company requirements
The Physical scope of this position will be onsite with minimal travel (up to 10%).
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the development of and maintains EHS policies, procedures, methods to drive overall EHS performance excellence.
- Provides technical expertise, safety training, guidance and coaching on all EHS matters to all levels of plant personnel.
- Ensures regulatory compliance by coordinating all activities and action items.
- Reinforces the importance of working safely in the plant.
- Supports EHS in driving and sustaining a comprehensive and pro-active safety culture.
- Assists in the development of EHS processes and procedures that reduce accidents, injuries and losses
- Coordinate safety committee meetings as a technical resource alongside EHS Manager
- Proactively identify and promptly address EHS issues which may affect operations.
- Execute action plans to reduce worker injury rates.
- Assists in the collection, tracking and reporting of EHS metrics
- Conducts site and process EHS inspections and evaluations; IH exposure monitoring/studies, incident analysis, audits hazardous waste accumulation areas, hazardous waste storage, storm water management, etc.
- Provide reports of findings, risk reduction recommendations and corrective measures.
- Conducts workplace inspections for compliance with safety regulations and corporate safety standards.
- Conducts ergonomic assessments.
- Participate as a member on the emergency response team(s).
- Provides training to employees in OSHA programs, hazardous waste, spill response, SDS, secondary container labeling, etc.
- Maintains procedures to minimize waste and ensure environmental compliance with EPA regulations. Provides timely information and guidance to the site leadership team, and site EHS council, including EHS performance trends and root cause corrective actions for injuries and near misses.
- Drives action plans to meet and exceed aggressive EHS goals.
- Assist with implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives to minimize water use, greenhouse gas generation, hazardous waste generation and increase recycling rate.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety and Health or Occupational Health & Safety
- 1+ years of experience in health and safety
Preferred Qualifications
- Recognized Certification in Environmental, Safety or Health, Risk Management such as CIH, ASP, CSP, etc. (Desirable, but not required)
- Strong leadership, organization and project management skills
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with and work with all levels of the organization and external agencies
- Demonstrated understanding of standard EH&S reporting methods and metrics
- Ability to influence and drive EH&S initiatives while working indiverse, multicultural environment
- Demonstrated strength in EH&S risk assessment, program evaluation and auditing
- Past experience in manufacturing/warehouse or research and development setting
- Strong knowledge, understanding and compliance with Environment, Health and Safety regulations, standard concepts, practices and procedures required.
- Proficient in using MS Office, Outlook, Windows Operating System Internet explorer and web applications.
