Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for an EHS Specialist to join our team in the Texas-North Louisiana Region. In this role you are a safety-focused business partner providing support in the management of comprehensive safety management systems. This position will implement and support effective training initiatives, provide targeted risk analysis data, and audit programs to measure efficacy. This position provides key field support to all regional Trane employees, programs and incident prevention activities, and supports compliance with Trane, local, state, and national requirements. This position promotes a strong safety culture and a healthy work environment.
Location and Travel: This position works REMOTELY within the geography below, however there is travel up to 50% with up to 25% of that being overnight stays. This position is provided a Fleet vehicle for travel.
Ideal candidates would travel and work from San Antonio, Austin, or Dallas/Fort Worth, with additional travel to offices in Corpus Christi, Weslaco, Lubbock and Shreveport, La.
Responsibilities:
- Participate as an active member of the Regional EHS Team, supporting the regional operations success.
- Implement, manage, and measure the success of safety programs, strategies, policies, training, and procedures in alignment with Corporate and Business Unit expectations for the region, including, but not limited to Commercial Sales Office locations.
- Visit dispersed workforce, contractors, and subcontractors on job sites and at Commercial Sales Office locations on a regular basis to ensure effective implementation of EHS processes and programs, identifying existing or potential risks and hazards. Assist with timely closure of corrective or preventative measures through interactions between field employees and leadership.
- Respond to and track incident and near miss reporting. Collect data for and support root cause analysis of incidents and injuries alongside subject matter experts, business leadership, and enterprise EHS to determine, while actively working with all parties to aggressively support transitional duty and return to work programs.
- Facilitate EHS training and orientation as needed. Coach/mentor all employees, including leadership, on safe work practices, hazard identification and risk management.
- Observe, coach, and communicate with local leaders on employee actions affecting the leading indicators, including employee involvement and management commitment, regarding EHS and wellness matters within the region.
- Support the accurate maintenance/organization of EHS related records in compliance with Trane, local, state, and national requirements or any other regulatory agency rules and regulations. Prepare technical EHS regulatory reporting documents, as needed.
- Participate on business teams/committees, as needed, to assist in the identification, development, and implementation of safety policies and procedures, projects, and campaigns focused on safety improvements, waste reductions and resource conservation.
- Complete and monitor risk assessments, data reporting for injuries and illnesses, environmental metrics, risk assessments, EHS action items and other pertinent information and recommend control measures for all potential areas of concern.
- Contribute to the facility emergency response team to conduct appropriate training in emergency response, spill response, disaster preparedness and crisis management. Ensure drills and equipment are in a ready state and effective communication of responsibilities to personnel.
Qualifications:
- A minimum 3 years of practical environmental health and safety experience at a medium-large site preferred or comparable experience.
- Beginning knowledge of OSHA, EPA, MSHA, DOT, Canada Health & Safety Board as regionally appropriate. Experience in the interpretation of federal, provincial, state, local, environmental and safety standards.
- Experience in fast paced, changing/growing organization with a demonstrated ability to adapt well to face-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction and strategy.
- Must possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to:
- DUI in previous 3 years
- Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
- Good time management skills and strong computer experience in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, and Word) and EHS data management systems (i.e. Gensuite).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and verbal in English with a strong ability to motivate, engage and influence others. Bi-lingual is an asset.
- Must be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to take innovative approaches to improve processes and solve problems.
- Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and perform duties in hot and cold environments. Sites include office settings, construction sites, rooftops, warehouses, manufacturing plants, etc.
- Comfortable working with field technicians as well as communicating with leaders at all levels in the organization.
