Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist - Exempt

Under the Operational Excellence Organization, the EH&S Specialist will assist with planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining occupational health, safety, and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. He/she assures that the Hanwha Aerospace USA complies with applicable federal and state health, safety and environmental laws, regulations, and standards. The Sr. EH&S Specialist will also lead the compliance, audit processes and reporting associated with maintaining ISO14001 certifications.

Location: Based out of Cheshire, CT; Supporting ALL HAU Connecticut facilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Compliance Management:

Stay current with local, state, and federal EH&S regulations including EPA, OSHA, CT DEEP, and USDOT to ensure the company's compliance

Help develop and maintain EH&S policies and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements.

Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.

Coordinate and collaborate with regulatory agencies during inspections.

With the Facilities Manager, develop and implement environmental compliance programs related to waste management, storm water permitting, water pollution control, and HazCom programs.

Risk Assessment:

Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and evaluate potential hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Survey to identify and evaluate occupational health, safety and environmental conditions. Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.

Develop strategies and controls to mitigate identified hazards. Coordinate the implementation of controls within each site. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries. Identify and implement engineering controls as needed.

Training and Education:

Direct, coordinate or otherwise assist in the development of specialized education and training materials. Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control policies and procedures. Assist in new employee occupational health, safety and environmental orientation. Represent management at Safety Committee meetings, as appropriate. Maintain central corporate files of employee training and Safety Committee minutes.

Promote EH&S awareness through communication and educational campaigns.

Incident Investigation:

Compile, analyze, interpret and report accident, loss, and exposure statistical data; prepare comprehensive root cause and corrective action plans to eliminate or minimize potential hazards. Maintain OSHA 300 and 300A occupational injury/illness reports. With the Human Resources, review injury reports and assist the overall administration of workers' compensation program. Lead the development and maintenance of company-wide metrics that will measure the EHS performance of each division and the corporation as a whole.

Environmental Stewardship:

Monitor and track environmental performance and remediation activities.

Emergency Preparedness:

Develop and maintain emergency response plans and coordinate drills.

Ensure adequate resources and supplies are available for emergency situations.

Additional Responsibilities:

Ensure the safety and housekeeping standards are met

Prepare an annual budget for health and safety. Recommend the purchase of safety equipment and supplies.

Perform other duties as required or directed, whether or not specifically mentioned in the job description.

Qualifications:

Must be a "US Person" as defined by US Government and able to work without restriction with ITAR related data.

Must be able to read, write, understand, and speak English at a functional level.

Various other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Participate in training as required

5-10% Domestic Travel required

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift, push, or pull at least 50 lbs.

Regularly required to sit, stand, reach, bend, and move about our facilities.

Requirements:

Must have 3 to 5 years of related experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A BA/BS degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety or Environmental Sciences or in a related field is required; related master's degree preferred.
