What you will do:

Under little to no supervision, performs duties utilizing knowledge and skills commensurate with the requirements of the position. The Senior Engineering Assistant shall execute high-level technician tasks and basic engineering level tasks when necessary. Other responsibilities include directing technicians' work, formulating work execution plans and methods, documenting daily work activities, maintaining laboratory equipment in a safe, proper working condition and providing technical training when required. The Senior Engineering Assistant will be working with products containing electrical (120/230Vac), electronic, embedded controls, pneumatic and mechanical subsystems. Senior Engineering Assistant should work closely with supervisor and cognizant engineer to keep them informed of status, concerns or problems at all times.

How you will do it:

  • Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots and repairs new or existing hardware, software or manufacturing designs or processes.
  • Constructs assemblies, tests circuits or tests fixtures.
  • Prepares formal technical reports.
  • Collects and records accurate test or process data for use in problem analysis, product verification, process verification and engineering or manufacturing estimates. Assists engineers in analysis of test or process data.
  • Assists in developing and documenting engineering procedures and preparing of charts, graphs and reports to future referral of information.
  • Assists engineers to design, develop valuate, qualify and improve product hardware, software programs or processes.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a safe, proper working condition and establishes maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Utilizes software application programs such as Microsoft Word (word processing), Microsoft Excel (spreadsheet), etc.
  • Writes software programs for test setups or for general engineering support, using product configuration and programming tools.
  • Plans the work of less experienced personnel as required.
  • Teaches component or product function, application, test and troubleshooting methods to others.
  • Direct outside vendors to obtain information, parts or equipment and to implement corrective action.
  • Designs test circuits, loads, interfaces and/or fixtures to aid in product analysis, manufacturing or test and/or designs software tests and approaches to test.
  • Provides useful product or process ideas to assist engineers in design, development, manufacturing, reliability improvement or cost reduction.
  • Performs engineering functions, such as developing test or process plans and makes recommendations, based on analysis of data.
  • Assists the supervisor in some administrative tasks and handles urgent activities in the absence of more senior personnel.
  • Recognized expert on product and technical support activities. Can work independently with other business units to assist them in configuring, testing or learning the product.
  • Handles multiple complex or multi-activity tasks simultaneously. Has effective time management skills so that high priority tasks are completed as planned.
  • Uses department processes and goals when planning self-directed work activities.
  • Plans and coordinates internal special projects as needed by engineers or management.

What we look for:

Required

  • Associate Degree or equivalent or military or formal training in area of involvement.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the technical field (Advanced skills, additional education and exceptional performance may alter this requirement). Experience in the fields of electrical, electronic, embedded controls, and testing.
  • Must possess good oral, written and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as direct the work of others.
  • Ability to compete similar projects in less time and at a higher level of quality than expected of technicians or average senior technicians.
  • Ability to proficiently use the tools or materials required to perform typical assigned duties in areas of hardware, software and manufacturing.
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering theories, mathematics, mechanics and physical science concepts to the job. Must possess a professional and positive work attitude, in accordance with work area and Company policies.
