Job Description

As an electrical engineer intern at Neuralink, you will have the opportunity to design and produce hardware solutions for our brain-machine interface devices, including surgical robotics, automation, microfabrication, and more. You will get to own projects from concept to production, utilizing your electrical engineering background in the challenging field of brain-machine interfaces. The role involves collaboration with neuroscientists, biologists, and engineers to determine design criteria and build systems quickly and effectively.

  • Brain Interface Team is looking for an electrical engineer intern for implant electronics board design, integration with our custom chips, testing, and quality control. You will own advanced projects, not only working on incremental changes, and be an integral member of a small, fast-moving team. You will be working on all phases of board design (part selection, schematic design, layout, and bring-up) as well as work closely with chip designers, robotics, mechanical engineers, and microfabrication experts for system integration.
  • Robotics and Surgery Engineering Team is taking a first principles approach to inventing the operating room of the future. As an electrical engineering intern you will design, bring up, and own the electrical designs of our surgical systems. Example systems include traditional robotic sensing and actuation, multi-camera imaging modules, laser galvo scanners, power systems, in house test systems, and needle actuators for inserting our electrodes into the human cortex. You’ll own projects from design through production, and will be an integral member of a small, fast-moving team.
About you:
  • You find large challenges exciting and enjoy discovering and defining problems as much as solving them.
  • You deliver. You may enjoy thoughtful conversations about problems and perfecting designs, but in the end, you know that what matters is delivering a manufacturable solution that works every time.
  • You are a cross-disciplinary team member. You are excited to work with and learn from software, mechanical, electrical, materials, biological engineers, and neuroscientists. You are comfortable communicating across teams.
  • Resourceful, flexible and adaptable; no task is too big or too small.
Key qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
  • SMT soldering skills.
  • Experience with PCB design tools i.e. Altium, KiCad.
Preferred qualifications:
  • 1+ years of electrical engineering industry experience, including owning products from concept to production.
  • Experience with Python and C.
  • Basic CAD experience i.e. SolidWorks

What we offer:

  • An opportunity to change the world and work with some of the smartest and the most talented experts from different fields.
  • Growth potential. We rapidly advance team members who have an outsized impact.
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance through a PPO plan; parental leave.
  • Flexible time off + paid holidays.
  • Equity + 401(k) plan.
  • Commuter Benefits.
  • Meals provided.
Multiple studies have found that a higher percentage of women and BIPOC candidates won't apply if they don't meet every listed qualification. Neuralink values candidates of all backgrounds. If you find yourself excited by our mission but you don't check every box in the description, we encourage you to apply anyway!

Neuralink provides equal opportunity in all of our employment practices to all qualified employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital status, military status, genetic information or any other category protected by federal, state and local laws.  This policy applies to all aspects of the employment relationship, including recruitment, hiring, compensation, promotion, transfer, disciplinary action, layoff, return from layoff, training and social, and recreational programs.
