Position Description

Origis is seeking a Director – Electrical Engineering to join our diverse and growing team. The ideal candidate, reporting to our Sr. Director of Project Engineering, will be the subject matter expert in Utility PV solar facilities electrical design. S/he will be a dedicated resource leading, evaluating and optimizing electrical designs and assuring designs code-compliant during project pre-construction and construction phases.

The Director – Electrical Engineering is a regular, full-time position, and is eligible for our generous employee benefits package, including employer paid health insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions, and other great benefits. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, optimize and review PV electrical design including.
    • Single line drawings,
    • Electrical site plans,
    • DC and control wiring,
    • PV string sizing,
    • AC collection systems,
    • Circuit/feeders protection,
    • Grounding system,
    • Equipment layout and specifications,
    • Auxiliary power and tracker powering,
    • Electrical studies, i.e., Load flow, short circuit, reactive power, loss calculation, ampacity calculation/conductor sizing, arc flash, etc.
  • Define and manage assembly of electrical design scope of work documents and related studies to support EPC bidding and early-stage financing.
  • Work closely with the Development team(s) to understand off-taker/utility needs
  • Support early-stage technical discussions with IEs.
  • Ensure that all projects incorporate electrical designs of appropriate quality, completeness, and performance.
  • Refine, maintain, and implement Origis electrical design standards and technical specifications.
  • Evaluate forward looking and innovative approaches for best in market design, technology, and cost/construction considerations
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external engineering consultants and Owner's Engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in utility scale PV design.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of electrical design, materials, and methods of construction in PV utility projects, including PV string sizing, DC and AC conductor and conduit sizing, racking/tracking powering, electrical and system studies required for plant design, i.e., losses calculation, arc flash, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and IEEE standards related to PV utility and BESS power plants.
  • General knowledge of PV solar plant SCADA requirements & design, Solar design software such as PVsyst, and electrical design software as ETAP or SKM.
  • Strong understanding of PV cost stack and how design considerations impact project LCOE throughout the development process.
  • Ability to effectively communicate between technical and commercial minded team members
  • PV design and constructability experience in multiple geographic regions
  • Battery storage experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Location               Austin, TX; Miami, FL; San Diego, CA. (Remote/ hybrid location may be considered)

Travel                   Up to 20% travel required as necessary
