Electrical Engineering Lab Technician
Job Description
Austin is home to Optiver’s custom trading system hardware research, design and manufacturing facility. We’re looking to expand our team with a technician who can help with designing, manufacturing, validating, testing, repairing and, at times helping to install our trading hardware. This position is an excellent match for engineers with an Electrical Engineering degree who view themselves as versatile generalists with a passion for hands-on work. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including testing, rework, manufacturing, design and software development.
What you'll do
As an Electrical Engineering Lab Technician, you play a critical role in the realization of our designs from idea stage mockups all the way to production. In this position, you will collaborate closely with PCB, mechanical, and optical engineers to ensure that the system we make are not only constructed to exact specifications but also function harmoniously within the trading system. A few examples of things you'll do:
- Design
We have dedicated engineers focused on on mechanical, PCB, software and optical parts of our trading systems. You're going to be part of this engineering team where your experience in testing and manufacturing will ensure we design systems that are designed for manufacturing and are easily testable. - Manufacturing
Once we have a design it needs to be built. We do parts of this both in-house and with outside partners. Building complicated hardware from the ground up is not a simple task and your role will focus on making sure manufacturing runs smooth by working with the other engineers ensuring things come together as planned. This can range from negotiating with vendors to getting parts and from making cables to doing assembly work. - Testing/bring up
Any board or system that is manufactured or repaired needs to undergo testing to ensure it works as expected in production. Test setups can be high speed complex systems themselves and we're looking at you to make sure this all works smoothly and efficiently. Activities here range from voltage probing to signal integrity testing and from developing software to test automation. - Repairs
Not all components pass testing and sometimes that means they need to be repaired. If this can be done in-house we will ask you to take care of the soldering and hot air work.Â
This job is on-site at our Domain office.
Who you are
