EMC Design Engineer - Power Electronics

EMC Design Engineers at Lunar are responsible for providing EMC Design expertise, working with cross functional teams to ensure designs meet legal and safety requirements related to EMC and general immunity testing.  Engineers at Lunar are hands-on with simulation, hardware, and testing.  As an EMC design engineer, you will be tasked with ensuring our products are designed to meet EMC requirements from a board level to an entire product level, and able to carry product development from concept stage through high-volume production. You will give input on board layout, design input and output line filters, specify test equipment, model, build, and verify various filters and related circuitry.

On a given day at Lunar, you'll likely...

  • Review schematics, parts placement, layouts, and mechanical housings for Compliance to EMC Design Standards
  • Perform EMC simulations with RF simulators as well as with analog circuit simulators
  • Review EMC Test data (formal & pre-compliance data) to assist in Root Cause and Corrective Actions
  • Monitor new EMC Technologies & Design Methods and evaluate adequacy for implementation
  • Assist in improving Global EMC Design Processes, development & checking of automated EMC Review tools/scripts
  • Assist Product Teams in Bench Level EMC testing, initial EMC Planning & Control Plan generation
  • Support Product Teams in the development of EMC-robust Load Boxes/Simulators and adequate EMC Test Plans
  • Assist in identifying updates for EMC Design Standard and EMC Training needs; providing regional EMC Training
  • Develop new Pre-compliance/Bench EMC tests as needed
  • Review IC Level EMC Data for adequacy to meet product needs

Desired Skills:

  • Deep knowledge about EMC test standards
  • 4+ years of experience with Spectrum Analyzer/EMI Receiver and within hands-on EMC Lab Troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of the fundamental electromagnetic principles that govern the design of EMC systems
  • Deep knowledge of current state of the art practice in EMC filter implementation, including topologies, requirements, tuning, damping, measurement, materials, manufacturers, components, testing, etc.
  • Ability to configure and utilize EMC test hardware up to, and including a full SAR chamber
  • Experience with EMC filter designs for power converters
  • Job grade is flexible depending on the qualification and experience 
  • Experience developing models & running simulations in a multi physics tool (i.e. Ansys) to illustrate & solve complex EMC problems

Our Compensation Philosophy: Our goal is to ensure that all Lunar Energy employees are fairly compensated. Please note that the salary range information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position provided pursuant to the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The salary range estimate for this position depending on level of experience is: $140k - $200k USD.

The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package & benefits, will be at the company’s sole discretion, and determined by factors including but not limited to years of experience, job level, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations.
