Summary
About the Position: Serves as Emergency Communication Dispatcher providing around the clock 24/7 emergency police, fire, guard and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls, and dispatching appropriate personnel and equipment.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The employee must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance and access.
- Must obtain and maintain certification in first-aid and CPR.
- Must be able to pass an audiology examination.
- Must be able to pass an optometry examination that includes being able to vividly distinguish colors.
- Subject to work emergency overtime
- Must obtain and maintain 911 communications certification in Emergency Medical dispatch (EMD) within 90 days of appointment.
- Must obtain a 40 hour basic Telecommunicator training program within 9 months of appointment.
- Must obtain and maintain an active National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within 9 months of appointment.
- Position is subject to shift work.
- Subject to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
- Performance of duties is in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
- Must obtain and maintain continuing Dispatch and Intrusion Detection education requirements within 9 months of appointment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State driver's license.
- Must obtain and maintain training in the Emergency Management System within 9 months of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain a certification in either the Public Safety Dispatcher Course or Telecommunicator I and II within 9 months of employment.
- Must be able to input data at a rate of 30 words per minute (WPM) using a standard keyboard.
- Must obtain and maintain certification in hazardous materials awareness within 9 months of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain training and/or certifications as required to perform duties as associated to this position within 9 months of employment.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in an Emergency Services Communications Center that includes (1) providing emergency services communication operations in an Emergency Services Communications Center; (2) provide clear and precise instructions under highly stressful conditions; (3) operate and interface with law enforcement computerized databases such as Centralized Operations Police Suite (COPS), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), provide assistance to callers with medical emergencies and state law enforcement telecommunications systems, as well as the Computerized Intrusion Detection System (IDS). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
