Employee Experience Designer and Project Manager (Senior Consultant/Managing Consultant)
Job Description
You understand the power of great experience and its ability to inspire employee and customer behavior. You have a keen understanding of what it takes to deliver exceptional services, both in front of the house and behind the scenes. But most of all, you see all of this in the context of furthering our clients’ core mission or business. The issues to be resolved are often difficult to define and quantify; may involve complex, traditionally competing interests; are often characterized by senior leadership interest and visibility; and require extensive probing and analysis.
Project OverviewOur client is transforming how they engage and support their employees by building the first office dedicated to employee experience. Our efforts to improve the employee experience include developing the vision, building out internal infrastructure, and creating measurement tools. In parallel, we are also piloting programs around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and mentorship to bolster the employee experience. Your role will encompass designing and driving employee experience projects, communicating with project stakeholders, gathering qualitative and quantitative data, measuring and evaluating the success of pilots, developing client-facing materials, and crafting strategic solutions.
Project RoleResponsible for:
- Developing a deep understanding of what the client is trying to accomplish, using mixed-method approaches (e.g., human-centered design, survey, etc.) and creating strategies to solve multiple dimensions of a business problem
- Leading a team in customizing and implementing service-based solutions
- Leading the creation of project specific deliverables, including journey maps and service blueprints, etc.
- Conducting focus groups and interviews, and co-facilitating trainings
- Managing team contributions and providing overall quality control
- Developing implementation project plan and managing team toward completion of major milestones
- Developing and driving project management systems and processes for often complex projects
- Creating status reports for leadership outlining progress of project activities, monitoring and assessing project risks, and developing mitigation strategies in collaboration with program manager
- Approaching every day with a ‘we’ mindset and willingness to collaborate with and learn from teammates
- Independently managing time to complete assigned tasks or entire lines of effort as part of the larger client engagement
- Being a strong critical thinker who sees the big picture program strategy, demonstrates the ability to weave strategy into delivery, and can seamlessly maneuver between strategy and delivery
- Candidate should have the ability to:
- Independently develop and manage a project plan
- Create and oversee high-quality client-ready deliverables from conception to presentation
- Manage staff towards completion of activities ensuring on-time delivery of artifacts and deliverables
- Coordinate with program leadership on direction and progress of project activities
- Work in a team environment, being open to others’ ideas and working collaboratively to produce well-rounded solutions/deliverables
- Effectively lead team meetings
- Be flexible as project scope evolves
- Communicate succinctly both verbally and in writing
- Candidate should have experience:
- Working with clients in a consulting capacity
- Presenting to and communicating with executive leadership
- Synthesizing data, adapting to any given circumstance, and successfully communicating to drive results
- Leads services and/or projects that deliver client outcomes; may also lead work-streams within complex services and/or projects
- Builds rapport with the client by seeing assigned tasks in the context of broader strategic goals, anticipating risks, and supporting decisions through the development and delivery of high-quality deliverables.
- Leads entire teams to plan task timelines and directs the allocation of staff support to complete tasks.
- Mentors and supports the development of team members.
- Takes advantage of learning opportunities beyond client-based role or roles and connects them to existing knowledge.
- Shares knowledge with internal and external peers through writing and speaking 4-6 times per year.
- Builds organizational capability by building reusable process assets, templates, and tools that improve the consistency of our services.
- Supports federal business development pursuits by actively researching customer needs, recognizing opportunities and assessing the competitive environment to determine an optimal approach and solutions.
- Maintains a professional demeanor that is consistent with Technical Assent core values at all times.
- Approaches every day with a ‘we’ mindset and willingness to collaborate. You are a natural team player who is comfortable working on multi-disciplinary teams, which may include designers, engineers, developers, business strategists, etc.

- Identifies additional client needs beyond the current scope of work.
- Leads services and/or projects that deliver client outcomes.
- May also lead work streams within complex services and/or projects.
- Builds and maintains trusted advisor relationship with client by seeing project outputs and outcomes in the context of client mission and outcomes and leading production of high quality deliverables.
- Leads entire teams to plan task timelines and directs allocation of staff support to complete tasks.
- Mentors others in developing and applying knowledge, skills, and abilities with core Capability Area(s) and professional expertise.
- Continuous learning within core Capability Area(s) and professional expertise.
- Leads application of and mentors others in Technical Assent’s consulting approaches and methods, as well as other general consulting skills.
- Shares knowledge with internal and external peers through writing and speaking 4-6 times per year.
- Builds organizational capability by building reusable process assets, templates, and tools that improve the consistency of our services through the CMMI for Services framework.
- Supports business development by actively researching customer needs, recognizing opportunities and assessing the competitive environment to determine an optimal approach and solutions.
- Actively supports the business development lifecycle by performing Capture-related tasks and leading Proposals or Request for Information responses.
- Maintains professional demeanor that is consistent with Technical Assent core values at all times.
- This position is remote with little to no travel anticipated.
- Bachelor's degree
- 6-10 years of experience in Federal Government Consulting or other management consulting
- 3+ years of experience with human-centered design and/or design thinking, employee experience, customer experience, and/or service design
- Curious, problem solving, and open-minded approach to work
- Thrive in a continuous Build-Measure-Learn cycle
- Engage with technology -- with comfort and ease (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, Monday, Slack, Mural, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
- Knowledge of Department of Veterans Affairs
- Project Management Certification (e.g., Project Management Professional)
