We partner with finance, engineering, product, marketing, sales, the people team, operations and more to craft a marketplace that delivers business to our pros while helping millions of customers get their projects done each year. About the Role

As an Employment Counsel, you will support the Company and partner across the Legal Function, with a personal emphasis on labor & employment, compliance, and marketplace risk, and other general issues that the Company encounters.  Thumbtack attorneys work on a variety of engaging and challenging legal issues each day and the key to this role’s success will be to earn the trust of our business colleagues and provide expeditious, practical legal advice that helps identify and then mitigate risk across our platform. 

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling and support on employee terminations, performance management, investigations, accommodations, and other employment-related matters

• Coordinate and manage employment related projects, including internal process reviews, new policy roll-outs and implementation, regular policy updates and training programs

• Draft and edit employment-related documents, correspondence, agreements and processes

• Provide support on Privacy/Cybersecurity initiatives

• Manage legal risks while providing business oriented solutions 

• Communicate and collaborate effectively across teams and various roles to educate colleagues about business and legal risks while enabling Thumbtack’s success

What you'll need

• J.D. with 5+ years of legal experience (in-house experience a plus, e.g., secondment)

• Labor & Employment experience 

• Exposure to privacy and cybersecurity laws and compliance

• Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and written/verbal communication skills

• Good judgment and ability to balance risk and productivity in a business environment

• Independently motivated, while collaborative in execution 

• Ability and openness to receive constructive feedback and act on same

For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $180,000 - $245,000. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.

For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $153,000 - $208,250. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
