Job Description:

Job Summary: The EMS Outreach Coordinator serves as a liaison to the trauma program for pre-hospital providers and EMS services. This position establishes strong relationships and communication with outside agencies influencing access and clinical guidelines. The EMS Outreach Coordinator assists the trauma quality program to promote the delivery of optimal and efficient services. Coordinates pre-hospital case reviews and continuing education programs. Keeps trauma program and pre-hospital partners well informed on updated policies and procedures, participates in policy revision within the hospital as well as with regional partners and supports event resolution for the trauma program. This position is also responsible to implement new initiatives to improve EMS processes and relationships within the community, servicing EMS agencies and the trauma program.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

  1. Works with the Executive Director to plan, develop, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate technical and administrative aspects of EMS activities.
  2. Collaborates with Trauma Program Leadership and EMS services to design and implement EMS initiatives and market differentiators that are in alignment with the trauma program and JPS strategic plan.
  3. Collaborates with the Executive Director and Medical Director to develop and implement strategically focused initiatives to support EMS service line growth.
  4. Serves as a liaison with other EMS providers and governing agencies ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements or providing assistance and/or guidance to service providers as necessary.
  5. Serves as a liaison between EMS and the Trauma Program Leadership providing analytics which will be utilized to identify performance improvement metrics.
  6. Serves as entity representative for Statewide and Regional EMS meetings, conferences and seminars.
  7. Maintains documentation of all activities to be presented during site surveys.
  8. Works with the Executive Director to support business growth strategies for EMS services to advance the tertiary care facility strategy.
  9. Reviews and evaluates current and future EMS issues and trends to ensure that EMS services reflect clinical best practices and evidence-based care as well as the most current technology and service delivery.
  10. Works as a Trauma Program and entity resource/expert in the field of EMS.
  11. Collaborates with the Trauma Program and EMS services to include core and/or protocol competency, continuing education and pre-hospital protocols and communication tools.
  12. Assists the trauma quality program with coordination, investigation, analysis, and response to pre-hospital safety issues, events, significant care issues and trends. Assists with assessing root cause analysis, failure modes and effect analysis, and process improvement, working with pre-hospital teams.
  13. Validates the accuracy of process measures and data elements used for outreach dashboards and reporting.
  14. Supports the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Program (PIPS) by assisting with the identification of pre-hospital complications and compliance with regional trauma guidelines.
  15. Participates in trauma case reviews, escalation of events through quality committees, and linking performance improvement data to action plans, educational programs, and/or outreach.
  16. Participates in the development of trauma-related policies and procedures by using knowledge of operational processes, resources and constraints in relation to the role of EMS providers and patient rights.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in EMS, pre-hospital emergency medicine or other clinically related discipline.
  • Minimum two years of experience in coordinating skills training or public speaking.
  • State Registration as an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P), Licensed Paramedic or bachelor's degree from an accredited school of professional Nursing.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) obtained within 12 months of employment.
  • Completion of a departmental-based leadership development program within 12 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Trauma program, trauma registry or professional outreach program experience.
  • Experience with project coordination.
