Position Description

Origis Energy is seeking an Energy Storage Analyst to join the Analytics team in San Diego, CA or Austin, TX. The Energy Storage Analyst will work closely with other members of the Energy Analytics & Data Science team to apply and improve technical models. The Analyst will leverage in-house modeling software to design storage projects throughout the Project Development lifecycle, including the assessment of key performance metrics and customization of operations algorithms. The scope of the role includes utility scale Solar + Storage, Standalone storage, distributed energy resources (DER), and C&I.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model solar plus storage and standalone storage systems based on a variety of use cases. This includes analysis of sizing, degradation, augmentation strategy, key performance metrics, and costs.
  • Translate the contract (PPA) requirements and customer needs into product requirements.
  • Work with Business and Project Development team members to optimize designs and proposed solutions given utility-specific data such as energy and capacity value heat maps and historical prices.
  • Provide accurate inputs to financial models to support development of competitive proposals to customers.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of in-house modeling tools and processes.
  • Support the development of internal- and external-facing presentations and proposals with technical content.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Analysis, Statistics, Physics or equivalent.
  • MS in above disciplines preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 year or more of modeling and simulation of energy storage and/or solar plus storage systems.
  • Proficient in Excel for data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of energy storage technology fundamentals.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain ESS control strategy and present data analysis and simulation results to non-technical internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Ability to collaborate and interact with suppliers, customers, and other project team members in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with energy storage operations data, energy storage degradation modeling, or wholesale market participation, preferred.
  • Knowledge of utility generation, transmission, and distribution systems, specifically with regards to the interactions of large scale solar and wind on the utility system, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis and modeling a plus.

Travel               Up to 10% travel as needed

Job Level           Analyst. The expected starting pay range for this role is $70,000 to $100,000 USD, in addition to a competitive annual bonus and benefits, 401K, etc. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges provided as our individual pay is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, location, experience, education & certifications, as well as performance.
