Position Summary

We are looking for a highly talented scientist or engineer to be a part of the Consumable Characterization team within the Integrated Devices group. Candidates with facility in a range of experimental measurement techniques as well as proficiency in statistical methods, data analysis, and programming/scripting languages will be considered. As a successful candidate, you will work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment to create consumable devices to enable next generation sequencing products.

Responsibilities

  • Support a wide range of consumable development efforts, including demonstrating the viability of new designs, evaluating process changes/improvements, and resolving urgent issues with on-market products. Focus may initially be on the areas of CMOS packaging and reagent cartridge assembly, but has the potential to extend to other consumable technologies.
  • Engage in development efforts with statistically rigorous experimental design and data analysis. This role has a specific emphasis on supporting investigations through laboratory measurements and data aggregation.
  • Evaluate, optimize, and introduce new measurement systems to consumable research and development teams.
  • Actively participate in designing prototype measurement workflows, demonstrating tool robustness, transferring characterization tools to manufacturing, and training manufacturing process engineers to own systems after transfer.

Requirements

Illumina Integrated Devices group has a strong culture of mentoring. Interested applicants with a solid background conducting quantitative experimental studies with some combination of the skills listed below are encouraged to apply even if all requirements are not met.

  • Expertise in optical and fluorescence microscopy/spectroscopy
  • Experience with mechanical, device, and surface characterization methods
  • Comfortable working and communicating across disciplines as applicants will often be balancing inputs from teams across optics, fluidics, CMOS, consumables, and reagents
  • Experience with statistical analysis (ANOVA, variance component analysis, gage R&R analysis)
  • Experience with at least one scripting or programming language (python, R, C++, etc)
  • Experience with image analysis (imageJ, OpenCV, or similar)

Experience

BS or MS with 0+ years of experience in a field closely aligned with materials chemistry, nanofabrication, or device physics (Biomedical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biophysics

The estimated base salary range for the Engineer 1 - Development - US1 role based in the United States of America is: $65,800 - $98,600. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
