Engineer

Job Description: Metallurgical Laboratory/Warranty Analysis Engineer

Support for the Tenneco NA Clean Air engineering organization in analysis and documentation of exhaust system assemblies and components using the metallurgical laboratory. Support for warranty teardown and parts analysis including investigation report generation and warranty data analysis. Key duties will include sample photography, metallographic sample preparation and analysis, spectrometer and mechanical property analysis and report out of investigative findings.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Technical support for material engineering and warranty parts returns
• Execution of assigned lab investigations from sample submission to finished report approval
• Warranty parts analysis coordination, report out to leadership, engineering and customers; including regular visits to customer warranty parts return centers
• Understanding and adherence of organization and EHS requirements in the work place
• Diligent and timely execution of tasks defined in the job description.
• Good written and oral skills to provide high quality reports and presentations.
• Scheduling of Analyses and work coordination of technician staff
• Visual inspection and photo documentation of submitted parts (i.e., identification of failure modes)
• Participation in Continuous improvement projects
• Communication and technical recommendations on materials and specifications provided to Engineering, Quality, Purchasing and Commercial groups
• Ability to travel as required to suppliers, customer and Tenneco locations to represent the Test Part Analysis/Warranty Part Analysis Engineering group

Required Experience

• Engineering degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Weld engineering or related field
• Languages: Fluent in English spoken and written
• Ability to learn and understand failure analysis
• Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
• Self-directed individual with the ability to handle multiple tasks and follow through on project completion

Preferred Experience

• Knowledge of principles and working principles of the exhaust system
• Use of metallurgical laboratory equipment
• Presentation and Report Writing
• Customer Interaction
