Job Description
Overview of the Role:
The DAA Development and Deployment Engineer is responsible for helping to ensure the success of new DAA hardware and software deployments. The Engineer will participate in the definition of new product features, development of test cases, deployment planning, and field triage, with a focus on proactive identification and analysis of service failures in the lab and in the production environment, with a goal of keeping these events out of the production releases.
Areas of responsibility include:
- Support the rollout of new products and software by participating in upgrades and deployments and monitoring the outcomes.
- Design and develop tools for monitoring device performance and identifying fault conditions using approaches such as Moody smart alerts, Grafana, or scripts that gather data from devices.
- Be the point of contact for field issues caused by software or hardware bugs.
- Assist in identifying field issues and lead efforts to triage and perform a root cause analysis.
- Assist with the development of detailed design requirements for new RPD/rSwitch features/bug fixes and the subsystems that support the devices (for example, GCPP, vCMTS, and RLCM).
- Assist with the development of test plans to exercise new and current features.
- Coordinate with other technology supplier and Comcast teams including regions, divisions, and corporate technology / business unit teams to identify related requirements.
- Prioritize, track, and communicate design, development and implementation requirements required for launch of new technologies and services.
- Participate in discussions (internal/external) to define design requirements for device/system features.
- Partner with the program team to plan, and execute successful projects based on roadmap.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Technical understanding of DOCSIS (3/3.1/4) physical, MAC, and upper-layer protocols, OSS, and PNM collection and streaming telemetry, and HFC technologies.
- Technical understanding of 55-1/55-2 video deployments and management.
- Experience with Comcast triage tools and systems for both legacy and DAA technologies, including NWT, Yeti, Grafana, Kibana, and vCMTS Operations Portal.
- Experience with network operations and processes, including network troubleshooting, network construction, and ongoing network management.
- Experience working in broadband telecommunications including HFC or wireless technologies.
- Creative, self-motivated teammate who is willing to take ownership of tasks assigned and new responsibilities and empower others.
- Natural curiosity about staying up to date with current technologies, trends, and groundbreaking platforms.
- Comfortable in being uncomfortable; programs move quickly, decisions change, plans adapt to changes, uncertainty is all around. A successful candidate will embrace the uncertainty and drive it to certainty as the project and product evolves.
About the TEAM:
The DAA Development and Deployment TEAM supports programs to build our next-generation network with faster symmetrical speeds, lower latency, enhanced reliability, and scalable security. Focusing on distributed access network hardware components, they support the development, testing, and deployment of access solutions such as Remote PHY and Remote Ethernet Switches.
