About The Position
The Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (EI&C) Engineer is responsible for overall EI&C Engineering related to execution of a new combined cycle energy combustion turbine (CCCT) center for Ameren Missouri. This role includes providing technical expertise in EI&C Engineering (either specialization in heavy power, instrument & controls, or combination thereof) to help lead project development in association with Ameren Power Operations and Company-wide design and project management requirements. The CCCT EI&C Engineer will report to the Supervising Engineer - Combined Cycle Execution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the team of professional / technical staff in all phases of the CCCT project by providing technical support on a variety of topics related to the EI&C fields of expertise.
- Plan, schedule, prioritize and coordinate activities to assure that assignments are completed in a high quality and timely manner, as directed by the Supervising Engineer - Combined Cycle Execution.
- Provide sound engineering recommendations and solutions for assignments taking into consideration safety, customer affordability, conservative operations, Ameren Missouri Power OPS design standards, internal Ameren stakeholders, and outside engineering expertise.
- Interface with outside engineers, vendors, contractors, suppliers, governmental and regulatory agencies, as well as other groups with the Company in performance of tasks as needed.
- Provide guidance, review, and QA / QC of outside engineer, contractor, and vendor E&IC work. Lead by example by following and setting expectations for high quality work on critical design elements from external stakeholders.
- Provide on-site support as directed during all phases of the CCCT Energy Center design, construction, start-up, and testing.
- Participate on and interface with Ameren teams, as required.
- Keep abreast of state-of-the-art developments and improvements for CCCT EI&C technology.
- Power engineering specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Transformers, motors, generators, exciters, protective relaying, circuit breakers, motor controls, cable / raceway, DC systems and SKM modelling.
- I&C engineering specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to: DCS control systems, PLC control systems, logic / programming, networking, NERC CIP / Cybersecurity, communications, process measurement elements (flow, pressure, etc), UPS, and PID tuning.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university is required. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with relevant Generation I&C design experience may also be considered.
Five or more years of power and / or I&C design engineering experience for Power Generation facilities in the applicable areas listed under "Key Responsibilities" is preferred.
Experience with combined cycle plants, gas turbines, turbomachinery, steam generators or other energy center mechanical or environmental systems preferred. Experience with large project execution preferred.
A Missouri Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.
Essential Functions
Time spent on site during construction and start-up will be required. This will include exposure to heat and cold temperatures, vicinity to high energy equipment (electrical, controlled combustion, etc), dust, safe use of electrical / other PPE, and climbing of ladders and steps. Employing safe work practices at all times is a must.
Travel to and from outside engineer, vendor, and contractor offices may be required (including the potential for international travel on occasion) for design reviews, factory acceptance test witnessing, and engineering quality inspections.
