Department Overview
Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is looking for a motivated, ambitious individuals to join our Hot Section Durability organization. Durability Engineers are responsible for executing designs and thermal analyses of cooled and uncooled turbine airfoils and BOAS. These analyses are necessary to support the design, development, validation, production implementation and management of advanced and operational engines flying across the globe.
Key Responsibilities
- The candidate will be expected to perform heat transfer, fluid flow, and computational fluid dynamics analyses.
- Additional responsibilities include mission life and validation analyses.
- Interface with numerous internal and external customers and suppliers, including manufacturing, casting and core suppliers, overhaul and repair facilities and airlines.
- Frequent opportunities to document and present technical material to design teams, senior leadership and executives to drive informed decisions will be required.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Fluent in English (verbal/written)
Preferred Qualifications
- Concentration in Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamics
- Strong writing, presentation and interpersonal skills are required
- Ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams
- Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Knowledge in Material Science, Statistics, Lifing and Weibull Analysis
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, such as, investment casting, laser and EDM hole drilling, airflow, metallic and ceramic coating, and ceramic matrix composite (CMC) processes.
- Knowledge of airfoil lifing failure modes and mission life modeling for typical airfoil limiting modes such as oxidation, creep, corrosion and TMF
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills with detail-oriented focus
- This position requires 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).
