The successful candidate will serve as part of a multi-disciplinary team in Southern Company Hydro organization supporting Georgia Power Company's hydroelectric plants and lakes.

Applicants should have a basic understanding of: water resource management; hydrologic and hydraulic modeling; watershed modeling; fluid mechanics. Familiarity with USGS gaging systems and data collection/dissemination is a plus.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in hydraulic and/or hydroelectric plant operational modelling for systems of impoundments.
  • Estimating inflows into reservoirs incorporating USGS measurements, and hydrologic data.
  • Calculate discharges through water control structures.
  • Provide engineering and procedural support for the hydroelectric Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licenses including relicensing, license amendments and operational compliance.
Position requires interface with other groups within Southern Company and Georgia Power and with external governmental agencies such as the FERC, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Atlanta Regional Commission as well as speaking at public meetings and interacting with public stakeholders. Good communication and organizational skills are necessary for the position.

Education : BS in Civil Engineering or Hydrology/Water Resources or related engineering related discipline required

Experience: Prefer 2-3 years working on water resource projects or civil projects which include hydraulic structures. Experience interfacing with regulators and the public is an asset. Experience with water modelling and/or Excel spreadsheet models a plus.

License and Certification: Preferred EIT or PE in the state of Georgia
