We are looking for an individual who is dedicated to improving the performance of our renewables assets. This role will interface with wind and solar entities, RCC QSE, power off takers, (Black Hills Power, Evergy, Pacificorp, First Energy, Tri-State, Southern Cal Edison) and OEM providers (Vestas, Siemens, Gamesa, Suzlon, Nordex, GE etc) to increase megawatt generation.

This position will work on-site at Nascar Plaza in Charlotte, North Carolina to oversee specific sites operations for Duke Energy's Sustainable Solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Responds to wind/solar/battery site requests for technical assistance, which may encompass mechanical, structural, or civil engineering concepts related to various aspects of the generation plant
  • Identify, track, and analyze performance data across various platforms simultaneously
  • Clearly communicate progress and identify blocking issues
  • Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees
  • Complete field research to identify underperforming areas and solutions
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems
  • Research and implement best design principals to improve reliability and generation
  • Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity
  • Manage end of warranty processes
  • Support the growing analytics needs of the company.
  • Serve as an expert in translating complex data into key strategy insights and valuable actions
  • Discover business narratives told by the data and present them to other scientists, business stakeholders, and managers at various levels
  • Create business intelligence, dashboards, visualizations, and/or other advanced analytics reports to adequately tell the business narrative and offer recommendations that are practiced, actionable, and have material impact, in addition to being well-supported by analytical models and data
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally


Required Qualifications for the Engineer Level I position:
  • High School/GED
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, Master's degree in Engineering


Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with heavy data analysis and working with multiple platforms simultaneously
  • Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles
  • Bachelor's degree preferable in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Renewable energy experience
  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
  • Understanding of basic principles of project management.
  • Experience in the utility industry


Working Conditions:
  • Valid Drivers License required
  • Regular travel required to projects throughout the United States
  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated location
  • Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period
  • Must be able to climb a wind turbine after receiving training
  • must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must be able to respond to O&M Support outside normal working hours as required
