Job Description
A thoughtful, collaborative and results-driven senior engineer with experience architecting solutions, promoting best practices, and leading technical conversations. You have a range of full-stack JavaScript experience and are comfortable working in an agile environment. You are a doer and are passionate about making great software. You have experience mentoring junior engineers. You are comfortable using and providing guidance in techniques like pair programming and test driven development (TDD).
We are looking for a software engineer with experience in agile techniques like breaking down tasks into like-sized parts and pair programming.
Above all, you care about delivering quality software in a sustainable and timely manner and about software craftsmanship. You have experience in, and passion for, creating high-quality, maintainable code that confers low operating costs, high change velocity and is a point of professional pride for you and the team.
The Platform Systems team maintains and develops tools that support the exchange of data across teams throughout our portfolio, called Pre-Enrollment. We work closely with those teams, Application Systems and Marketing Systems, to streamline and optimize data and tools that help to increase prospect looks and conversions. Our goal is to streamline how data moves through the portfolio. We are also responsible for the delivery of our university brand assets to partner sites, as well as the authentication system that powers access to our university partner applications. Our stack includes a mix of JavaScript, Python, and even some Clojure. We use AWS services extensively. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about taming intricate, many-tiered systems for automation and tool-building, and know how to strike a balance between the drive for elegant design, repeatable processes, and on-time delivery.
This role reports to the Director of Engineering for the Platform Systems Techdev Team.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Writing maintainable high-performance code
- Refactoring to keep code maintainable
- Conducting exploratory and automated testing
- Leading technical design of applications and participating in larger system design efforts
- Providing technical guidance and feedback to other team members
Things That Should Be In Your Background:
- 4+ years of engineering experience
- Proficient in writing clean JavaScript code
- React, NodeJS expertise
- Experience in:
- Deploying your own code to production through CI/CD
- Planning and estimating development tasks and short-term projects
- Relating your project deliverables to products you are building and strategy behind them
- Advocating for end user needs in software you are building
- Collaborating with Product team (product managers, business analysts, and UX designers) to define and refine requirements
Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:
- UI / UX experience
- Experience with a CSS framework, i.e. Tailwind
- AWS experience (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, etc)
- Experience with monitoring and alerting services such as DataDog
- Experience working with and across other teams

In Colorado, the anticipated base salary for this role is$120,000.00 with potential bonus and equity eligibility. Note: The final compensation for this position may consider factors including the geographic location where the work is performed (candidate's assigned office) and prior work experience of the candidate.
