Engineer IV – Linux System Administration

Come join our Corporate Information Services (CIS) team delivering support and operational innovation for our Verisign global enterprise. The CIS team provides Verisign employees with services, solutions, and systems that maintain and promote internal, and efficiency support business resilience initiatives.

The position provides technical leadership, collaborating across functional teams to deliver on IT Operations tasks and projects.  This engineer will be responsible for enterprise systems and application deployment, administration, configuration, automation and integration efforts in a VMware virtualized Linux, OpenStack private cloud, and physical servers in a multi-site corporate production environment.

Key responsibilities include Red Hat Linux systems administration, automation, and enterprise application administration. The work will be performed independently and within a team environment.

 Responsibilities

• Primary owner for ServiceNow IT infrastructure
• Performs daily operations support functions including systems deployment, automation, upgrade, patching, vulnerability mitigation and monitoring
• Deploys and configures OS for Web/App/DB, Apache, MySQL, DNS, and SSL certificates based on vendor standard methodology and internal standards
• Provide incident response and root cause/mitigation to include security vulnerabilities and performance degradation or system outage analysis
• Follows defined ITIL organizational change processes with ticketing systems and InfoSec security policies
• Collaborates with peers and other functional teams to push through and deliver security initiatives and critical projects in a timely fashion
• Document processes, procedures, configurations, and deployment plans
• Participates in team on-call rotation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 8 years of operations administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers in a highly available secured production environment
• Strong scripting experience to include automation/configuration management using Ansible (Preferred), PowerShell, Python  
• Critical thinker with problem solving proficiency and thrives for implementing process improvements
• Strong working knowledge of monitoring systems, Solarwinds is a plus
• Hands-on experience with TCP/IP networking, including Ethernet, IP addressing & subnetting, routing, iptables, and network troubleshooting
• Good interpersonal skills to collaborate with teams and present technology briefings to peers and management
• Capable of handling challenging priorities and maintain focus on critical projects
• Experience documenting standard operating procedures, work tasks and changes in tools such as Jira, Wiki and ServiceNow
