Quanterix is a company that is digitizing biomarker analysis with the goal of advancing the science of precision health. The company’s ultra-sensitive detection solution, Simoa, has the potential to change the way in which healthcare is provided today by giving researchers the ability to closely examine the role of biomarkers in the continuum of health to disease. Quanterix’ technology is designed to enable much earlier disease detection, better prognosis and precise treatment methods to improve the quality of life and longevity of the population for generations to come. The technology is currently being used for research applications in several therapeutic areas, including oncology, neurology, cardiology, inflammation and infectious disease.

We are looking for a creative and driven Hardware Engineer Co-op to join our team. This position will be part of our hardware engineering team. We are looking for an individual to join a design, process, and manufacturing engineering department. The candidate will perform various engineering duties to support the goals of the designing, optimizing, and manufacturing tasks within the instrument engineering team.  Candidate must have an interest in electromechanical design and fabrication.

This co-op will be for the Spring 2024 semester.

What You’ll Do:

• Drive, execute, and report on engineering projects
• Develop and test complex instrumentation assemblies consisting of electro-mechanical, optical, and imaging subsystems
• Communicate effectively with engineers, scientists, customers, and colleagues
• Facilitate the resolution of manufacturing, field service, and customer problems; and subsequently drive engineering solutions to improve or correct product or process issues
• Provide training to field service and manufacturing for any new processes or procedures
• Interact with vendors and purchasing to resolve issues with current and future product materials and assemblies, and evaluate potential future vendors for capability, cost, and quality
• Operate a positive working relationship between Quanterix and external manufacturing and engineering firms
• Design for regulatory agency compliance (CE/CSA/TUV/RoHS/WEEE)

What We’ll Expect From You: 

• BSEE (or ME, Physics) with 1-3 years of experience in the development of scientific instrumentation at both module and system levels
• Skilled in software/hardware communication and control, and in contemporary design practices including embedded processors, FPGA, DSP, and communication technologies (USB, CAN)
• Experience with scientific instrumentation such as stepper motors, motion controllers, sensors, PCB design, DC and AC power distribution, digital data acquisition systems, and cameras
• Experience driving external third-party collaboration, product design transfer, and manufacturing support and transfer
• Experience with regulated medical devices or analogous systems desirable
• Excellent engineering skills and technical communication
• Experience with Altium and/or OrCAD is desirable
• Familiarity with product design methodologies such as a life cycle model or stage-gate process
• Collaborative spirit, positive attitude, strong work ethic
