How you will help us create value together:
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern on the Mining Shovels team, you will be responsible for a range of activities supporting new product development for Komatsu's lineup of hybrid and electric mining shovels.
This position will be based onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee's Harbor District! The target start date for this role is Spring 2023 and has potential to be extended into the Fall 2023 school semester. We offer full-time hours during the summer and flexible part-time hours during the academic year. There are TWO openings on this team!
Key Job Responsibilities
- Develop CAD and programming skills while performing mechanical and structural layouts, mechanical dynamic simulation, and in-house user software modification and documentation
- Participate in the generation of new Machine Level Concepts through SolidWorks layouts
- Apply engineering analysis knowledge and tools for design
- Build and apply skills through collaborating cross-functionally (purchasing, manufacturing, quality assurance, etc.)
- Support senior engineers with new product development processes
- Machine fundamentals (performance, geometry, component strength and life analysis)
- Apply and develop professional communication skills (written and oral), utilize presentation skills
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Pursuing a bachelor's level degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
- Hold a rising Junior or Senior level in good academic standing, Sophomore standing may be considered
- Ability to work independently as well a part of a team towards a goal
- Excellent organization and personal time management skills; able to handle multiple tasks
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Possess effective problem solving and critical thinking skills, able to be creative and resourceful when needed
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous internship experience, or hands-on experience in trade work (mechanical repair, electrical work, machine shop work, etc.)
- Basic experience with a CAD tool (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ProE, Inventor, etc.) with SolidWorks preferred
- Basic experience with programming software (Visual Basic, C++, LabVIEW, MATLAB, etc.)
- Creative, high energy, and self-motivated
- Proof of mechanical aptitude and interest based on previous proven skills and experience (STEM program, robotics, home projects)
