As an Engineering Lead - FinOps you will play a crucial role in optimizing and managing the financial aspects of our organization's cloud infrastructure and technology resources. You will work at the intersection of finance, operations, and technology, ensuring cost efficiency, resource allocation, and financial accountability. Your primary responsibility will be to identify cost-saving opportunities, analyze cloud consumption patterns, and implement strategies to optimize our cloud spending while maintaining operational excellence. The candidate needs to be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and highly matrixed environment. This includes working with ambiguity, creating operational maturity vs. having it already in place, and have successful experience managing operations and hiring and developing talent. Primary Responsibilities - How will you help us Grow? How does an Engineering Lead work?

  • Through Strategic Partnerships: Build and maintain strong and credible relationships across Corteva IT.
  • Harmonizes Business Needs and IT Strategies: Keeps a secure and differentiating employee or customer experience at the forefront of all they do. Oversees clear business capability definition and ensures alignment to technology products and services are in place to support.
  • Enables a High-Quality IT Product Portfolio: Drives value realization from products, services, interactions, assets, and capabilities as defined by business cases or similar tools.
  • Monitors IT Products, Platforms, and Services: Regularly review metrics and health dashboards to assess availability and productivity of the products in their portfolio; proactively identifies services and service levels to manage business-partner expectations.

What are the Engineering Lead's Primary Responsibilities?

  • Cloud Cost Analysis: Analyze and monitor cloud usage, cost, and billing data. Identify cost trends, anomalies, and opportunities for optimization. Create reports and dashboards to track and communicate cost-related metrics to stakeholders.
  • Cost Optimization: Develop and implement cost-saving strategies and best practices. Recommend instance types, storage options, and purchasing models (e.g., Reserved Instances). Implement automation and resource allocation policies to eliminate waste.
  • Budget Management: Assist in the creation and management of cloud budgets. Track budget adherence and provide recommendations for cost control.
  • Forecasting: Predict future cloud spending based on historical data and upcoming projects. Provide insights for financial planning and resource allocation.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with cloud service providers to negotiate contracts and pricing. Evaluate and recommend suitable third-party tools and services for cost optimization.
  • Compliance and Security: Ensure cloud resource usage complies with organizational policies and industry regulations. Implement and monitor security best practices for cloud resources.
  • Documentation and Training: Maintain documentation of cost-saving strategies and policies. Provide training and guidance to teams to promote cost-conscious cloud practices.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of cloud resources and identify opportunities for scaling or right-sizing.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify opportunities for system performance improvements and implement enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain close partnerships with associated functions within Corteva IT including Software Development and Support, ERP, Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio and Program Management, and Cybersecurity.
  • Seek, embrace, and maintain strategic partnerships with product vendors and suppliers.
  • Incorporate operational excellence standards into daily operations to continually improve performance.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience - What You will Bring to the Table!

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in financial operations or related field.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Proficiency in cloud cost management tools and platforms (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management).
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial analysis principles.
  • Knowledge of cloud pricing models, cost allocation, and billing structures.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash) for cost optimization tasks.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate) are a plus.
  • Excellent product management skills.
  • Strong ability to engage with a global team and provide coaching and oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks within the constraints of timeline and budget.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly and master diverse technologies and techniques.

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • ITIL, Agile, PMP certification(s).
  • Operating in an Infrastructure as Product (IaP) environment.
  • Experience in strategy, customer service, and internal consulting.
  • Proven success in contributing to a collaborative environment.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
