Engineering Manager

About Your Role:
Dotdash Meredith is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our User Services engineering group to lead the User Generated Content team. This team is responsible for the applications and services which enable our customers to create content and allow our editorial teams to manage online communities like Allrecipes.com.
As an experienced technologist and leader, you will work collaboratively with your peers to shape the technical direction for the team. You will partner with Product Management to inform technical strategy and build a robust roadmap to meet business objectives. You will lead your engineering team to successfully deliver against the roadmap with an attention for detail, quality, and technical excellence.

You understand and will confidently address the challenges associated with delivering flexible, reliable, and highly performant services to drive engagement across our sites. You are capable of being hands-on with code and development tools and are eager to do so as required. You are a natural leader who will coax the best performance from our talented and committed engineering team. You will:

• Develop backend systems and moderation tools that allow new user generated content to be processed, enhanced, and rendered on our websites.
• Collaborate closely with other engineering leaders, designers, and product managers to define innovative ways to improve services and reduce costs.
• Recruit, mentor and manage developers on your team to grow their skills and prepare them for increased responsibilities.
• Stay current with and advocate for engineering best practices, performance, and scalability.
• Demonstrate passion for code quality and lead by example to produce high quality, complex services and applications.

About You:
You have broad, deep knowledge of modern development techniques and trends, and you are not done learning. You have:

• 6+ years of professional experience building and interacting with backend applications and RESTful APIs, with at least 1 year in a management role.
• Experience working in multiple back-end and/or full-stack technology frameworks in multiple languages. Practical knowledge of service languages such as Java, Python, or NodeJS is preferred. Experience with both container-based (Docker) as well as serverless (AWS Lambda/SQS/etc) applications is also preferred.
• The ability to make yourself understood to both technical and non-technical audiences. You are an outstanding communicator and your interactions with stakeholders and coworkers move business forward in a dynamic, exciting, entrepreneurial working environment. You are as good - maybe better - at listening as you are at talking and writing.
