Engineering Manager

The role: 

As an Engineering Manager at NYSHEX, you will be responsible for making sure our engineers are successful by providing mentorship and growth opportunities for your team. You’ll work closely with our Engineering and Product leadership. This role will help us scale our teams by growing our current team members, leading hiring efforts for your team, and advising on tech challenges as we scale quickly.  

Being part of a small team means you’ll be responsible for solutions that have a serious impact on the business and our systems. Our engineering team has the flexibility to design and propose innovative solutions that solve real industry problems. You’ll interact with carriers, shippers, and regulatory agencies to design systems that bring and old industry up to today’s standard. 

This is a full-time, hybrid role reporting to our Senior Director of Engineering. NYSHEX operates on a hybrid working model. NYSHEX staff globally will work from a NYSHEX office three days a week- Monday through Wednesday, and flexibly for the remainder of the week.

What you will do: 

• Manage and mentor one or more engineering teams   
• Work closely with our VP of Engineering to develop a strong engineering culture and ensure delivery against our product road map  
• Hire skilled and passionate engineers in partnership with recruiting 
• Work cross functionally with our product team  
• Collaborate with leadership on a technical strategy 

Who you are: 

• 6+ years of experience as a software engineer 
• 1+ years managing a software development team 
• You have experience hiring software engineers  
• You have experience and a passion for mentoring and developing the careers of software engineers 
• You have experience building strong partnerships with executive teams, product managers and designers 
• You have effective communication skills and the ability to comfortably articulate your thoughts and decisions 
• Possesses a solid mix of initiative, imagination, and work ethic 
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field 
• You have some experience in one or more of the following: 
  • Languages: Java, React, Python
  • Infrastructure: Linux, AWS, Docker, Kafka 
  • Databases: PostgreSQL 
  • Frameworks/Tools: Spring, D3JS, JUnit, Jenkins, Maven 
  • Integration: REST, SFTP, & Queuing/Messaging Services

Salary Transparency Disclosure

In accordance with New York City Local Law 32, the expected salary for this role is between $180,000 and $210,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package. This role may be eligible for additional compensation in the form of bonuses and/or stock options as well. The bottom of our salary range represents the minimum for a candidate who meets the qualifications for the role. All offers to candidates will ultimately be based on that candidate's individual experience and skillset, and not every candidate will qualify for the top end of the salary range.
