As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Hands-On Engineering Manager to join our dynamic team.
Role Overview:
As a Hands-On Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating and contributing to the activities of the engineering on the marketplace team. The team is responsible for matching businesses and professionals on the platform. You will be responsible for managing and guiding a group of talented engineers, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, meeting quality standards, and driving continuous improvement. In addition to your managerial duties, you will also remain actively involved in technical aspects, contributing to the development and execution of complex engineering projects.
This is a hybrid position based in downtown San Francisco with an expectation to work from office at least 3 days in a week
What You'll Do
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
- Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Technical Expertise: Maintain and enhance your technical expertise to actively participate in engineering tasks, providing guidance and support to the team when needed.
- Hands-On Involvement: Contribute directly to engineering projects, taking on technical tasks and challenges to set an example for the team.
- Resource Allocation: Allocate resources effectively, balancing workloads among team members and optimizing productivity.
- Performance Evaluation: Conduct regular performance assessments, providing feedback, and identifying areas for professional development for individual team members.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments (e.g., product management, quality assurance, operations) to ensure smooth and efficient project delivery.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement best practices to enhance engineering workflows.
- Risk Management: Analyze potential risks and challenges in projects and work with the team to develop mitigation strategies.
- Technical Documentation: Ensure comprehensive and accurate documentation of engineering designs, methodologies, and project details.
- Stay Updated: Keep abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices to drive innovation within the team and the company.
Who You Are
- 9+ years of experience with 1+ years of experience in managing teams
- Must be hands-on and coding 60% of time with strong engineering fundamentals
- Proven experience in a hands-on engineering role, with a track record of successful project delivery.
- Previous experience in a leadership or managerial capacity, leading engineering teams to achieve project goals.
- Strong technical expertise and proficiency with a passion for remaining hands-on in engineering tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically to address complex technical challenges.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Proven project management abilities, including planning, organizing, and tracking project progress.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Recruiting experience (sourcing, interviewing, offering, etc) is ideal
- Our tech stack: Python, Django, React/React Native, AWS, MySQL
For CAÂ based applicants:
- The base salary for this position is $185,000-$210,000
- This position is eligible for equity in the form of stock options
