Job Summary
The FEA Engineering Manager is the leader of the team responsible for conducting structural NVH and durability analyses using FEA on current and new products to provide design direction and verification. The team member collaborates with FEA Engineers in development, management, and execution of the regional group's goals and objectives.
This FEA Engineering Manager has considerable technical knowledge and must provide technical guidance to the FEA Engineers to ensure executed programs are delivered on time and to the highest level of quality.

Provide oversite and technical leadership to the FEA Engineering team to ensure industry-leading analysis methods are accurately utilized, program risks identified with appropriate mitigation validation activities forecast, and ensure program documentation is current and complete.
- Provide technical and validation related project management oversite to the FEA Engineer to ensure programs are delivered on time & with technical accuracy.
- Ensure all system level technical requirements, including reliability targets for performance and durability are achieved.
- Lead validation reviews and ensure validation documents are accurate and their content reflect the current state of the program.
- Ensure FEA and CFD analyses are complete and demonstrate a satisfactory level of risk before design freeze.
- Provide leadership on issue/problem resolution and apply strategies to achieve organizational goals.
- Lead the application of multi-physics computational methods (e.g., CAD, FEA, CAE/CAM) to conduct failure diagnosis to address/resolve complex engineering problems.
- Provide support/help/advice on test optimization, by applying accelerated test methodologies, such as HALT and CALT testing methodologies, to optimize test plans for timing and accuracy.
- Lead by applying a strategic vision to resolve program related issues or customer concerns.
- Provide technical leadership in fatigue analysis, reliability, DFMEA, NVH, accelerated testing methods to other Tenneco departments & be the go-to technical resource for these disciplines.
- Provide technical & strategic leadership in direct support of, and direct interface with, customers.
- Engage in customer negotiations regarding application of validation technology, validation approaches, requirements rationalization, and quantification of project/program risk to Tenneco.
- Drive technology, methods and process excellence to customers.
- Project to industry technical leadership on behalf of Tenneco.
Team Development
Train, guide and coach FEA Engineers by improving their technical and leadership skills; support continuous learning through application of technology and methods development; and help develop a strategic personal career growth plan and vision.
- Develop strategy for the creation and maintenance of standardized training material for the education of engineers in advanced stress and structural analysis; fatigue and durability analysis; DFMEA processes, best practices and methods; RLDA & signal processing; accelerated testing methods, reliability and statistics; and NVH analyses and testing.
- Establish systems engineering approach to verification and validation of exhaust after-treatment systems and components through the implementation of industry leading technology and methods.

- Track training, achievement & provide proof of competencies.
- Identify and nurture both new and existing talent within the FEA team.
- Coaching of engineers to analyzes complex data/outputs (e.g., simulations, FEA) to optimize designs, solve problems or establish engineering guidelines/standards.
Metrics/ Tracking
- Own the Validation Tracking metrics for the FEA team.
- Own the development of FEA related program tracking metrics and tracking tools.
- Lead or support TenPLUS program report-out metrics; including DMSO, Executive Program Reviews or Design for Manufacturing Review's.
General Duties/ Guidelines
- Help fill resource gaps: due to new program start, hiring, engineer vacation, or technical knowledge gaps.
- Develop and maintain close working relationship with more than one customer.
- Participate in the development of improved design guidelines or new tools/methodologies consistent with customer requirements.
- Applies engineering and problem-solving methods and tools (FMEAs, 8Ds, Six Sigma) in resolving engineering design problems.
- Create and analyze finite element models consistent with product use environment.
- Generate technical reports and present to internal and external customers.
- Verify (Correlate) simulation results with testing. Demonstrate agreement of simulation with actual measurement.
- Manage projects with off-shore FEA service supplier.
- Develop and implement optimization tools to expedite the product development process.
- Work closely with business unit engineers and communicate between our organization and customer as needed.
- Support Product Development Cycle and APQP (DFMEA, etc.)
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Advanced Degree a plus.
- Minimum 5-7 years' experience of Finite Element Analysis required. Grade level depends on education and experience.
- Prior Management experience required.
- Prior experience with structural NVH, Durability, optimization and automotive exhaust product development.
- Experience using the following tools also preferred: HyperMesh/ HyperWork MSC/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, CAD
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Strong project management skills, ability in multi-tasks.
