Engineering Manager

About the Role
The transportation industry has no shortage of complex problems requiring creative solutions to scale efficiently. In this role, you will lead a team, own the code and stack, and partner with the business to contribute to the build of our web-based platform.
Responsibilities

• Lead a team to design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and continuously improve the software
• Partner with the product and leadership team to manage user stories and project commitments in an agile framework to rapidly deliver value to our customers
• Mentor the engineering team to develop and perform at a high level
• Work with Staff and Principal engineers on system solutions for the entirety of the domain and continually improve based on new learnings
• Collaborate across teams to ensure best practices are used by all engineers within the organization
• Continuously improve how we design, build, and ship software as a highly functional team

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in and solid understanding of software engineering and process fundamentals: design patterns, algorithms, data structures, schemas and queries, unit testing, system design, code reviews, agile, and dev-ops
• 4-5 years managing engineering teams
• Strong Experience working with following technologies: NodeJS, GraphQL and Kafka
• Strong Experience with SQL, RDBMS and NoSQL technologies
• Experience working with three or more of the following: React or similar frameworks, continuous integration / continuous delivery tools, REST API development, serverless architecture, containerization, IaC, public cloud, application observability and/or event driven architecture
• Experience in cloud infrastructure preferred (Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, GCP etc.)
• Strong and effective communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience working in the logistics industry a plus
• Experience managing offshore teams is a bonus
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Our customers - large transportation companies and shippers who need those companies - have struggled with systems that are outdated or inadequate.
