Savage games were formed in 2020 by industry veterans from studios such as; Rockstar, Insomniac, Supercell, Wargaming and Rovio. In 2022 we joined Playstation, making Savage the founding studio of the PlayStation Studios Mobile Division.

The Role

As the Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers, serve as the primary liaison for other departments, assist in hiring, planning, resource allocation, and oversee external development when necessary. 

This role is not centered around your direct programming contributions but rather ensuring a cohesive tech team and a robust development environment for the entire game team. You will work closely with other craft leads to ensure seamless integration of tools, platforms and technologies. 

Reporting to the Game Director, you will have an influential hand in elevating the tech team through tactical planning, providing valuable insights to craft leads and working as the voice of the tech team to help outline the trajectory of Savage’s engineering strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Work with team members to help define personal and professional career growth objectives.

  • Guide career development, resolve conflicts, and foster team cohesion. Mentor engineers to enhance their skill sets.

  • Develop and monitor essential quality and team performance metrics, driving continuous improvement and providing updates to stakeholders.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, design, marketing, art and operations to ensure smooth, error-free launches within set timelines.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and deliver candid performance feedback.

  • Enhance productivity by eliminating obstacles and streamlining processes.

  • Collaborate with the recruiting team to expand the department, working alongside team leads and management to determine growth requirements.

  • Facilitate team events like retrospective meetings and tech gatherings.

  • Maintain transparent, ongoing communication to establish trust with internal stakeholders.

  • Play an active role in the tech strategy, promoting excellent engineering practices and continuous enhancement.

  • Partner closely with Producers to align goals and plans effectively.

Requirements

  • Track record of guiding teams to deliver high-quality products on schedule.

  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, presenting both opportunities and technical challenges.

  • Strong technical foundation in real-time interactive application development (games, simulations, visualizations, etc.).

  • Comfort in managing a distributed team of software developers across various locations.

  • Experience in shipping multiple games or real-time applications, understanding software development lifecycles.

  • Proficiency in managing a team roadmap and regularly updating stakeholders throughout projects.

  • Proven track record in fostering a diverse, inclusive work environment.

  • Skill in translating strategic goals into technical execution, defining features and scope, collaborating cross-functionally, and delivering products.

  • Previous experience as an engineer within the games industry.

  • Understanding of technical domains and translating company strategy into technical implementation.

  • Management experience with a grasp of managerial dynamics and maturity.

  • Familiarity with team capacity planning.

  • Effective personal communication skills, including managing difficult conversations.
