Team: IT

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager (Application & Checkout) in the United States.

This role sits at the core of a fast-moving, high-impact engineering organization responsible for the end-to-end customer application and purchase experience. You will lead a full-stack engineering team building and evolving the consumer-facing journey that powers life insurance applications through to policy issuance. Operating in a high-stakes, revenue-critical environment, you will balance delivery speed with technical excellence to ensure a seamless and reliable checkout experience. You will collaborate closely with product, design, TPMs, and other engineering teams to shape roadmap priorities and deliver new customer-facing capabilities. This position combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, requiring active participation in system design, code review, and architectural decisions. It is ideal for a leader who thrives in complex systems, enjoys mentoring engineers, and is motivated by building scalable, real-world impact products. The role is remote within the United States and reports into senior engineering leadership.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and support a distributed full-stack engineering team responsible for the application and checkout experience, ensuring high-quality delivery of customer-facing features.
  • Partner with product, design, TPMs, and cross-functional stakeholders to define, prioritize, and execute the roadmap for key product initiatives.
  • Drive end-to-end delivery of features across frontend, backend, APIs, and data systems supporting the application-to-issuance lifecycle.
  • Actively participate in system design, code reviews, technical decision-making, and incident resolution when needed.
  • Mentor engineers, promote engineering best practices, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and ownership.
  • Identify, scope, and deliver platform and product improvements that enhance performance, scalability, and user experience.
  • Use data-driven insights and metrics to monitor performance, track SLAs, and guide engineering priorities.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of software engineering experience with at least 1+ year in a formal engineering management or team leadership role.
    • Strong full-stack technical proficiency, including frontend (React, Next.js or Remix), backend services (Go and/or Python), APIs, and databases.
    • Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.
    • Proven ability to lead high-performing engineering teams and drive consistent delivery in fast-paced environments.
    • Strong technical depth with the ability to contribute directly to codebases and engage in architectural discussions.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing priorities in dynamic environments.
    • Nice to have: experience leveraging GenAI tools to improve engineering workflows and productivity.
    • Benefits

      • Competitive salary and equity package aligned with experience and role level.
      • Flexible remote work policy within the United States.
      • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance (with 100% premium-covered options).
      • Flexible paid time off and supportive parental leave policies promoting work-life balance.
      • Lifestyle stipend to support physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing.
      • Opportunity to work on high-impact, revenue-critical product experiences.
      • Strong engineering culture with emphasis on ownership, autonomy, and continuous learning.
      • Recognition in multiple industry workplace awards for culture and employee experience.
