Engineering Manager, Channel Services

The Klaviyo Channel Infrastructure team is one of the pillars of Klaviyo R&D. Its responsibility is the definition, construction, sending and tracking of messages on any channel: Email, SMS, Push and more. As a foundation capability, Channel Infrastructure supports business-critical functions of the Klaviyo marketing system.

Channel Infrastructure is at the start of an architectural transformation that will embody many of our capabilities as services that can be orchestrated from a variety of contexts. As Engineering Manager for our new Channel Services team you will have an opportunity to help realize that architecture, take ownership of our high-volume content rendering systems, and build a team and specific mission aligned with our technical direction.

Throughout this work you can expect to be deeply involved in roadmap and planning discussions with our Product Managers and Engineering leadership. You will be part of an extended team that owns the sending of >1 billion messages each day, driving billions of dollars of revenue for Klaviyo customers. You will collaborate with managers and technologists across the Klaviyo engineering organization, helping to promote best practices and strengthen the Klaviyo platform. 

How You Will Make a Difference 

• Lead a growing team currently with 3 direct reports. Our goal in the coming year is to increase the team to 4-5; you will have a central role in the interview process.

• You will drive the right processes, meetings and communications needed for team success.

• Use your technical experience and judgment to promote the improvement and operation of systems in your area.

• Mentor your team, creating and assessing development goals and plans.

• Work closely with Product Management, Engineering leaders, and even some early adopting customers on the iterative release of our next-generation architecture.

Who You Are 

• Looking to join a collaborative and cross-functional team to drive high impact work 

• Experience building distributed systems with high scale and reliability. 

• Excited to read and review code, understand the product area, and give applicable technical mentorship. Comfortable stepping in as a hands-on engineer when required.

• Managed a team of at least 3 people and comfortable managing remote team members.

• Successfully led and delivered on complex projects requiring multiple quarters and involving at least two teams.

• Comfortable giving performance reviews and mentoring team members at all levels.
