As an Engineering Manager for Deere & Company located in Chicago, Illinois, you will...
You will be responsible for coaching and developing software engineering teams that support our factories. The teams are responsible for building highly available and reliable digital products that keep our assembly lines running. We are looking for a leader who is as passionate about technology and modern engineering practices as about developing talent. Your responsibilities will include:
- Establish the product level technology roadmap and be part of major technology decisions such as modernizing, upgrades and hosting
- Ensures development standards are adhered to by the team that lead to highest quality/security/reliability standards for customers/users
- Manage staffing strategy to ensure delivery teams have the team members with the right technical skills for the product. Focus on long term talent development
- Promote and influence the devops mindset in the team and building elite engineering practices like observability, A/B testing, focus on metrics and feedback loops etc
- Understand financial implications of the technology and makes economically sound decisions. Provide input in the operating budget and has responsibility for managing it
- Partner with the Product Manager, Solution Architect and team in road mapping exercise and thin slicing of value stories
- Ensure that the digital product meets compliance and regulatory guidelines

What Skills You Need
- 5 or more years - Broad technical knowledge and hands on knowledge across a wide breadth of technology competencies like - React/Redux, Java, APIs, AWS, HTML & CSS, Databases, Web Infrastructure. Should have experience of building highly scalable and reliable digital products (High)
- 5 or more years Experience in technical leadership - experience of designing modern systems that are cloud native uses microservices architecture patterns, asynchronous MQ based solutions (High)
- 5 or more years Team-oriented, passionate about developing others' skills and capabilities (High)
- 3 or more years DEI champion. Appreciates and encourages diversity in teams. (High)
- 3 or more years Effective verbal and written communication forms with emphasis on persuasive communication, tact and negotiation. Ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical terms (High)
- 2 or more years Experience providing candid and effective performance feedback (Medium)
- 2 or more years Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery practices (Medium)
- 3 or more years Experience with Agile development process, methodology, and scaling (Medium)
What Makes You Stand Out
- Experience demonstrating servant leadership, learning agility and growth mindset (High)
- Demonstrated passion for technical learning and identifying areas for application (High)
- Sound understanding and experience of modernizing legacy digital products with a thin slicing approach
- 2 or more years of experience leading engineering teams (High,)
- Strong understanding and implementation of hybrid cloud technologies including containers, event driven systems , Observability tooling etc (High)
- Good understanding of UX/CX (medium)
Education
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science OR 10+ years of demonstrated experience as stated above.
