About You
We are seeking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers responsible for building web-based creator tools for images and video. At VSCO we build products for serious creators and strive to be everywhere and wherever our customers work. We are embarking on supporting and expanding our users with a desktop client featuring a toolset complementary to our mobile applications. Engineering Leaders at VSCO partner with product management, design, marketing, data, and leadership teams to create compelling new experiences across all of VSCO. You will help build, and manage a team of amazing web and server developers that build a beloved product used by tens of millions of users.

The day-to-day
- Help build the team that is responsible for VSCO’s web-based image and video-editing technology
- Partner with engineering and product leads to make long-term strategic technical decisions that impact key metrics for the team
- Maintain high morale and strong momentum on your immediate team and the broader group, as well as rigorous career-growth support for those you manage and mentor
- Work with other engineering leaders to oversee and drive agenda and work across VSCO’s various web applications
- Maintain the technical roadmap for the team
- Build and iterate on our new product suite to integrate with and complement our amazing native technology stack
- Create and fulfill the engineering hiring plan for your team alongside leadership and People Ops (including sourcing, screening, and interviewing candidates)
- Fuel your curiosity with inquiry and problem solving to surface opportunities to improve those around you, at an individual, team, group, department, and company level
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in an engineering or tech lead manager role with hands-on technical management expertise
- 4+ years software engineering experience as an individual contributor shipping web applications with tech stacks that include React, Rust, JavaScript, TypeScript, and/or WebAssembly
- Experience building, managing, or maintaining web-based image-processing and/or video applications
- Experience with image-processing and/or graphics libraries or APIs utilizing technologies such as Rust, WebAssembly, C/C++, WebGL, OpenGL, et. al.
- Experience preparing, developing, and communicating web-based system designs and APIs
- Experience with source/version control software, continuous integration, unit testing and build processes
- Familiarity with agile or lean methodologies
- Strong written and verbal skills with an open and transparent style of management and communication
Nice to Have
- BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience
- Knowledge/Experience of 2d/3d graphics algorithms and relevant math
- Knowledge or experience of networking, cloud computing, or distributed systems
- Knowledge or experience with Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and/or AI

Compensation
The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors, such as qualifications, experience, and skills. The base salary range for this role is $187,000 - $196,000. Salary is one component of the total compensation package, which includes bonuses (if eligible), equity, flexible time off, and other benefits.
