Engineering Manager - Data Platform

The AI organization is focused on accelerating the cultivation of a kinder world through data-driven intelligence. We aim to impact top-line company metrics through Machine Learning and Data Science, improve developer productivity, and provide transparency and insight.  

The Data Platform is the foundation upon which the entire AI organization is built. Responsible for the infrastructure and developing self-service tools to empower coworkers to work with data quickly, easily, and cost-efficiently. The platform is divided into three main areas: a streaming platform, an offline platform, and an experimentation platform.

As the leader of the Offline Data Platform, you will lead the team responsible for the infrastructure behind all of Nextdoor’s offline processing, storage, quality, and governance.  Well beyond the petabyte-scale, you will rely on a talented team of software engineers and third-party vendors to design and deliver self-service tools to empower teams, individuals and products throughout the company.  You will work with internal stakeholders including analytics, data science, machine learning, revenue, product development, marketing and more to understand pain points and leverage opportunities to maximize productivity and data availability.

Some areas of focus include:

• Build and refine infrastructure to cost-effectively process thousands of scheduled ETL workloads, running tens of thousands of times a day
• Empower teams and individuals to build, test, and monitor the quality and timeliness of their workloads
• Design and implement secure data practices, governance, and lifecycle management
• Facilitate data ingress and egress between Nextdoor and Third-parties

• 2+ years of people management, leading teams responsible for mission critical data-related infrastructure and services and 5+ years of backend development or data infrastructure development or the ability to perform at an advanced level in the domain
• Operational experience with distributed systems at scale
• Experience with performance, automation, data security, data quality, monitoring, capacity planning, and budgeting

The starting salary for this role is expected to range from $155,000 - $254,000 on an annualized basis, or potentially greater in the event that your 'level' of proficiency exceeds the level expected for the role. Compensation may also vary by geography.

We also expect to award a meaningful equity grant for this role. With equal quarterly vesting, your first vest date would be within the first 3 months of your start date. Overall, total compensation will vary depending on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
