Engineering Manager, Datastores

The mission of the Datastores team is to ensure that Peloton has a reliable, secure, highly available and highly performant data persistence layer (databases and datastores) for application services in partnership with other engineering teams. We are looking for an engaged Engineering Manager to join our Datastores team to manage and provide leadership around database reliability. As a manager of the Datastores team, your team will be solving a wide range of problems related to data protection, automation around datastore provisioning, observability and performance insights related to datastores like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticache, Memcache, and graph databases. As a people leader you will be responsible for career development and growth of your engineers ensuring that they are motivated in doing their best work in line with their interests.

YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON

• Be a hands-on player-coach focused on eliminating toil by providing Database as a Service (DBaas) through self-service tooling and improved developer experience. We are using industry-standard, cloud-native infrastructure, which means easily transferable skills.
• Represent the datastores team in internal customer meetings, multi-functional workstreams,  maintain roadmaps for the team, help prioritize customer requests and drive iterative delivery of projects enabling our partners to be successful. 
• Inspire a healthy, collaborative, empathetic engineering culture in line with Peloton’s values helping your team develop and grow along the engineering journey at Peloton
• Champion engineering and operational excellence, drive database reliability and incident management by establishing metrics and processes for assessment and improvements.
• Lead, coach and mentor other engineers of diverse backgrounds in an autonomous, multi-functional team.

• At least 2 years of prior experience managing and growing teams, and you enjoy working with people.
• At least 7 years of experience running PostgreSQL (or MySQL)  in production cloud environments (preferably AWS) along with exposure to datastores like Aurora, DynamoDB, Elasticache and Memcache
• Experience in designing, building and maintaining automation around infrastructure provisioning with Infrastructure-as-Code (preferably Terraform).
• You have a product mentality - focused on working with internal partners, prioritizing projects and iteratively delivering customer value..
• Passion for building stable and secure systems management practices.
• You are pragmatic without compromising on software quality and standards.
