Engineering Manager - DevOps

Job Description

The DevOps Manager leads the DevOps team which includes oversight of developer tooling/support and maintaining multiple cloud products and services. This person will handle and prioritize engineering efforts and ad-hoc operational tasks. This position also helps improve quality and productivity through automation.

A successful candidate will be an experienced manager who is willing to take on new challenges, has a strong metrics and operational excellence focus, excellent recruiting/people-development skills, and the ability to lead multi-functional teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with engineers and other engineering managers to architect, develop, and implement technical requirements
• Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to senior management
• Driving monitoring, process, security, and service improvements
• Collaborate with other cross-functional teams to plan, design, develop, deploy, and maintain applications and services within budget and on schedule
• Lead, hire, retain, mentor, and develop talent on the team
• Assess, prioritize, and remediate security vulnerabilities
• Management and execution of operational excellence and KPI's
• Build technology roadmaps to meet ongoing business needs
• Create, maintain, and prioritize engineering tasks

Job Requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of relevant technical experience
• 3+ years of experience in recruiting, managing, and mentoring small to medium technical operations or software engineering teams
• BS in Computer Science or a related discipline or equivalent experience
• Experience prioritizing product, engineering, support, and ad-hoc requests
• Experience supporting a highly distributed environment
• Experience with at least two of the following programming languages: go, NodeJS, Linux Shell, Python
• 3+ years of experience with cloud-based infrastructure and AWS services
• Experience with software development, engineering, deployment, and CI/CD
• Experience with tools such as Git, Terraform and GitHub/Gitlab
• Practical knowledge of HTML, CSS, Java, Scala, Python, JSON, PostgreSQL and YAML
• Knowledge and use of Agile methodologies, i.e. Kanban, Scrum, Lean
• Understanding of IT terminology, such as: Containers, DevOps, PaaS, IaaS, SQL, NoSQL

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience leading and working with offshore teams
• Experience prioritizing competing demands, scoping large efforts, and negotiating timelines
• Experience influencing engineering best practices
• Hands-on experience architecting, designing, and developing application code
• Experience designing fault-tolerant distributed systems
• Experience with Kubernetes, Linux, Docker, and Infrastructure as Code
• Experience with AWS RDS PostgreSQL
• Experience leading production support research/efforts

This position will require some support outside of business hours and on-call rotation
