Ascend Learning is hiring an Engineering Manager-Ecommerce. The engineering manager will provide leadership and strategic direction to internal and external on-shore, near-shore, and off-shore team members to build and operate CMS, Ecommerce platforms and interaction platforms for the Ascend Learning brands. You will be an equal partner with product managers to secure alignment from key business stakeholders, plan and manage related budgets, lead the build, change, and run tasks, monitor application performance, and understand real-user behavior and needs balanced with business objectives to prioritize the road map. The engineering manager supplies product teams with dedicated engineers as well as support staff to manage operational continuity of the platforms.
This role will be responsible for the overall vision, architecture, and iteration of end-to-end CMS and Ecommerce's applications that enable efficient and transparent sales processes and will involve cross-functional engagement between sales leadership, sales training & enablement, business analytics, engineering, product, and more.
The ideal candidate will provide hands-on technical leadership and manage flow of work closely with cross functional teams and collaborate with engineers to develop standard platform across multiple business units. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and enhancement of our Ecommerce and CMS systems. They will also manage the team responsible for building and maintaining these systems, as well as collaborate with other teams such as UX/UI, product management, and operations to ensure seamless functionality and user experience.
The office location of this position is Gilbert, AZ/hybrid preferred or Leawood, KS/hybrid.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of developers responsible for Ecommerce and CMS systems development, maintenance, and enhancement.
- Collaborate with other teams such as UX/UI, product management, and operations to ensure seamless functionality and user experience of Ecommerce and CMS systems.
- Develop and implement technical strategies for Ecommerce and CMS systems.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for Ecommerce and CMS systems.
- Ensure the security, scalability, and performance of Ecommerce and CMS systems.
- Lead the evaluation and adoption of new technologies and platforms that can improve Ecommerce and CMS systems.
- Recruit and hire top engineering talent to build and maintain Ecommerce and CMS systems.
- Manage the team's workflow, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of projects.
- Mentor and coach team members to improve their technical and soft skills.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Minimum 7 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on Ecommerce and CMS systems development
- At least 3 years of experience in a managerial role, leading and managing teams of developers
- Deep knowledge of Ecommerce and CMS systems architecture, development, and maintenance
- Experience in developing and maintaining microservices
- Strong technical skills in software engineering, including experience with languages such as .net, PHP, and databases such as MySQL or MongoDB
- Hands on experience on developing an Ecommerce website using Magento 2
- Knowledge of PWA framework and GraphQL is preferred
- Knowledge of Google Tag Manager, SEO, Google Analytics is preferred
- Strong understanding of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React or Angular.js
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, such as AWS or Azure
- Experience with agile methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban
