Engineering Manager - Mobile Platform

The Core Platform team focuses on creating a delightful developer experience that empowers engineers to build their features quickly and safely. We build paved roads so that product engineers can focus their efforts on building features that serve our neighbors and drive our business. We create infrastructure that makes the easy things work out of the box and the hard things possible. We build performance and scalability into the platform itself so that the application is safe and fast by default.

As the Engineering Manager for Mobile Platform, you’ll lead the team responsible for the iOS and Android infrastructure. In this role, you will help build the platform that empowers iOS and Android engineers throughout the company to build their features quickly and safely. You’ll work closely with the product engineers to understand their pain points and help improve their developer experience. Our goal is for the infrastructure to do the heavy lifting so that our product engineers can spend every minute of their time focused on their product areas and metrics.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Shared foundational code and libraries
• Forming the opinionated coding conventions for how we write Swift and Kotlin at Nextdoor
• End-to-end developer experience including the developer environment, incremental build time, unit testing, and automation
• Performance and Latency of app startup
• Collaborating with iOS and Android engineers throughout the company to set the technical direction of the iOS and Android platforms
• Helping engineers throughout the company who want to contribute to the foundational code and libraries

• 2+ years of people management, leading technical teams focused on iOS or Android development in an agile environment, preferably on a consumer application with frequent release cycles
• 4+ years of mobile experience working on iOS or Android development
• Can drive a strong sense of ownership across the team and motivate the team by celebrating wins
• Experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work
• A collaborative, thoughtful and strategic leader, who is comfortable with open communication and giving/receiving constructive feedback respectfully
• Bringing empathy and customer obsession for collaborating with engineers across the company to continuously improve the iOS and Android ecosystems
