Engineering Manager - New York

The Perplexity infra and backend teams design, create, and ship backend systems that power APIs and product experiences. Engineers on the infra team work on layers of the stack such as cloud infrastructure, data, training, inference, and security to deliver powerful systems. Projects are run in parallel across small teams to ensure rapid iteration and ownership.

Responsibilities

• Engineering leadership around all layers of a rapidly evolving product.
• Setting standards for reliability, code quality, testing, and maintenance.
• Onboarding and ensuring code quality for a growing team.
• Estimating accurate timelines and measuring success of deliverables.
• Working closely with design and product managers to prioritize and manage scope.
• Setting up processes for reliability and efficient development.
• Managing growth, development, and expectations of team members.
• Developing interview pipelines and rigorous screening processes.

Qualifications

• Ability to design efficient systems and processes.
• Ability to constructively identify tech debt.
• Ability to cleanly resolve engineering blockers.
• Organizational skills around managing and delivering parallel technical projects.
• Experience working with multiple small teams of engineers.
• Experience leveraging the right combination of open source and inhouse solutions.
• Familiarity with AI/ML capabilities and limitations.
• 8+ years of engineering experience.
• 4+ years of engineering management experience.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $220,000 - $270,000.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Equity: In addition to the base salary, equity is part of the total compensation package.
