Engineering Manager - Operations

This role sits at the heart of engineering operations, owning the stability, efficiency, and evolution of enterprise-scale platform services and release processes. It combines hands-on operational leadership with strategic responsibility for modernising infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments. You will lead multiple teams of engineers working across development, release infrastructure, and platform services. The role has a strong focus on reliability, automation, and continuous delivery in complex, distributed systems. It also plays a critical part in driving cost optimisation and operational efficiency at scale. You will help shape an automation-first, IaC-driven operating model while introducing AI-enabled workflows to improve engineering productivity. This is a high-impact leadership position focused on platform excellence, delivery performance, and long-term operational transformation.

• Lead and coordinate three engineering and platform teams (~15 people) responsible for internal operations, shared services, and release infrastructure across cloud and on-premise environments.
• Own end-to-end release management, including planning, scheduling, execution, validation, rollback strategies, and continuous improvement of release processes.
• Ensure platform reliability, operational readiness, monitoring, incident response, and support across environments and services.
• Define and execute cost optimisation strategies, establishing baselines and continuously tracking infrastructure and operational efficiency.
• Drive automation-first operations by embedding Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps practices, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Oversee operational metrics such as availability, deployment success rates, and MTTR, using data to improve performance and stability.
• Coordinate with architecture and delivery teams to ensure scalable, standardised, and consistent platform practices.

Requirements:

• Proven experience leading platform engineering, infrastructure, or operations teams in complex, distributed environments.
• Experience managing multiple teams (10–20 people) with accountability for delivery, operations, and outcomes.
• Strong background in release management, CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise-scale deployment operations.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Microsoft Azure, and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
• Solid experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform) and automation-driven delivery models.
• Demonstrated success in cost optimisation and operational efficiency initiatives.
• Familiarity with Agile or SAFe environments and cross-team delivery coordination.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills with a delivery-focused mindset.
• Exposure to AI-enabled engineering workflows and modern DevOps/GitOps practices is highly desirable.
