About the Role
Gusto is looking for an experienced and empathetic engineering leader to empower the team that builds our industry-leading experience for payroll administrators. In this role, you’ll be responsible for growing and mentoring a talented team of engineers, shaping the future of our most foundational product area: running payroll. You’ll work closely with product management, design, and data science teams to own and drive the team’s vision, strategy, and execution. You’ll do this while enjoying the support and mentorship of your peers and leaders across Gusto’s Employers segment.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Hire, lead, and grow a world class engineering team that delights payroll administrators and, importantly, helps to ensure timely and accurate pay for millions of employees
- Work cross functionally with design, data science and product management to own the team’s vision, strategy and execution
- Work with cross-functional partners across different business units to deliver an end to end product experienceÂ
Here’s what we're looking for:
- 5+ years software engineering experience
- 3+ years as an engineering leader, coaching and mentoring high performing teams
- Experience in a tech lead role leading a team executing large scale initiatives/projects over multiple quarters
- Demonstrated track record of building easy-to-use and delightful user experiences
- Demonstrated success growing and mentoring engineers across all levels of experience
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $167,00/yr to $198,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $202,000/yr - $239,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
