Salary Range

$115,400 - $196,100

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a highly motivated Engineering Program/Project Lead to develop automated test solutions that exemplify the world's best professional practices, produced by a world-class team. You will be a member of a cross-functional team that will specify, design, build, verify and manage complex electronic test systems for a wide variety of engineering domains. Applicant will perform technical analysis of test requirements and work with the customer to define and negotiate system requirements that enable mission function and performance; develops system conceptual designs to meet those requirements; and defines the necessary subsystems, components, and interfaces to realize the system. Plans and directs the execution of projects involving engineered systems, coordinating as required with customers in order to deliver projects according to plan. Applicant will define project objectives, deliverables, budgets, and schedules; acquire and manage resources for planning, tracking, and executing the project from initiation to close out; monitor cost, schedule, and performance; and incorporates systems engineering, configuration management, risk management, and quality standards into the lifecycle of the project.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Plan and direct engineering and technical projects for internal and external customers, coordinating as required with work performed in other internal and external organizations.
  • Define system and subsystem requirements, project scope, schedules, cost estimates, and deliverables that support mission objectives.
  • Negotiate deliverables with external customers and partners, builds and leads teams, and organizes resources to implement scope.
  • Apply standard principles and advanced Project Management techniques and tools in developing project plans and detailed work breakdown structures, negotiating work packages, resource loaded schedules, and assigning various aspects of work to complete project deliverables.
  • Ability to calculate, analyze variances, and make project decisions utilizing Earned Value Management System techniques and tools.
  • Manage project resources to ensure that deliverables and objectives are met according to the project management plan.
  • Provide technical or engineering support to one or more aspects of the program or project.
  • Provide leadership and tactical planning for execution of projects and applies engineering or other technical knowledge to achieve project objectives and deliverables.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Plus, five years or more years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Equivalent experience in lieu of degree must be directly related experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • Knowledge and background in one or more scientific or engineering disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, systems engineering, physical security engineering, or chemical engineering.
  • Knowledge of project management practices for technical work, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing to scope, schedule, budget, and technical baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.
  • Ability to make decisions requiring scientific, engineering, and programmatic judgment.
  • Knowledge of the technical or operational discipline of the assigned project.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.

The Weapons Design and Assurance Center (7600) is a multi-discipline, product-focused organization that provides engineering design, components, subsystems, integration, testing, and field support for nuclear weapons and other high-consequence national security applications. Examples of these applications include the development of satellite and other space-flight and airborne payloads, testing for high consequence military programs, nuclear weapon safety mechanisms, high reliability electronic products, telemetry and software systems, and data science and analytics. The Center is divided into four main competencies: Advanced Mechanical Design, Firing & Embedded Systems, Hi-Reliability Electronic Products, and Data Systems Engineering.

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
